Current mood: calm

Have I ever mentioned how continually amazed I am by the abilities of the Hogwarts maintenance and housekeeping staff? I really am unceasingly astonished at the way those elves seem to be able to get the stains out of anything--most recently the blood, which with my robes for the Hogwarts Halloween ball were liberally doused when I was forced to step into the fray that is more commonly termed 'Oh, that's just Malfoy and Potter going at it again' around Hogwarts. But, as I imagine we are most all quite sick and tired of that unpleasantness, I shall spare the rest of you my reflections, apart from saying that that is the last, absolutely the last, time that I disobey my impulses and agree to attend a social function on a Nine day. My word. I cannot afford to lose any more costumes--the replica of Lady Jane Grey's coronation robes was very hard to come by, and I am exceedingly grateful to the cleaning staff for restoring it to me without any trace of unseemly blood, sweat, saliva, or what-have-you. Heaven knows what sort of dirt and grime teenagers carry around nowadays, especially when they've been rolling around on a ballroom floor which has just been trampled upon by numerous pairs of ungainly feet.

But, as I said, there's no need to dwell on that any longer. The participants have received their punishments and will carry out their detentions together for the remainder of the week. I spoke briefly to Mr. Malfoy yesterday at the Manor Gala, and, while he appeared to be much more keenly engrossed in whatever he was doing on his computer than in what I had to say, I believe he has sufficient understanding of the seriousness of his actions, and will not be repeating them.

What a tiring few days it has been. The Gala was... well. The Manor is a lovely place, and it is always a treat to receive an invitation. The Malfoys do know how to make their guests feel suitably resplendant for an evening, I will grant them that.
