Oh dear. Isn't it a shame about that Muggle Princess?

You've heard about it all the way in America then? I went out this morning and the streets were very quiet. The Muggles look as though they've just been woken up from a bad dream, sort of startled and silent. I didn't know what was going on until I chanced on one of them listening to his wireless and they announced she'd died. Somewhere in Paris they said.

It's all very disconcerting. I know I ought to be sad, and I am, but I'm not certain why. All I can think of is how Lily made us all watch the wedding on her television. Harry wasn't quite a year old yet, and Sirius and James were whinging about missing a Quidditch match on the WWN. We had fish for supper. Lily was a fine cook.

I can remember that day vividly for some reason.

Yes, there was an announcement made here not very long ago. The people here do not, for the most part, know what to make of this news. Myself, I am just saddened as she was a very lovely woman and the wedding was just as lovely. I am surprised that you did not see Lucius and I there on the Muggle television, as there were ever so many 'camras' there taking pictures of the guests.

Like you, I remember that day very clearly. She was ever so radiant and Britain has suffered a great loss indeed.

Ah, well - it was very hard to see the television's screen through the small boy trying to touch the little moving people on it. We were lucky just to see her dress and the latter half of the ceremony once said small boy fell asleep on the floor at James's feet. I think though that the whole of Britain, wizard and Muggle alike, turned out for the occasion. I know that Sirius's cousin Andromeda had gone to catch a glimpse outside of the cathedral. Lily was quite jealous.

Ah, they've just announced it on the WWN. It is unfortunate that it takes events such as these to remind us of the ways in which our worlds can collide sometimes, isn't it?

I was considering going down to the Palace later today to bring some flitterblooms; I've heard there's people gathering there already. Want your name on the card?

It certainly did seem as though nearly the entire population of Britain was at the cathedral that day. It was quite the event, though. The flowers, the music, the dress. . .they were all so very exquisitely delicate.

I am surprised that it has taken this long for an announcement to be made on the WWN. Usually the WWN is quite prompt on matters such as these. Muggle and wizarding worlds alike will be affected
by this much more deeply perhaps than they are imagining right now.

If you would add my name to the card, I would be very grateful.

I think it's just that it is so very early here yet, and the country is just waking up to the news and no-one is really able to process it yet. I nipped upstairs to my neighbour's and watched a bit of the BBC - it's like the WWN only on the television - and the news-reader's voice was shaking as she read out the report. The WWN picked it up only because their presenter Octavian Rhumsickle (you know, the one with the high, squeaky voice?) is a Muggleborn.

Your name's added - I'm actually leaving a small scroll with the flitterblooms. I figure it's not enough to violate any of our Secrecy laws but it's enough to let them know that they're not alone in their mourning.

Are you in Nevada for very long? This seems to be the summer for long, strange journeys.

blondenarcissa @ 2003-08-30 10:15 pm UTC

I had no idea that Octavian Rhumsickle is Muggleborn but now that you have said so, I can understand completely that it would be so. Thank you for adding my name; I only wish I could be there to express my condolences in person.

I shall be in Nevada for a few more days, I expect. This event that I am at will conclude before the midst of the week and I have some other business in this area of the States to which I must attend.

Rhumsickle was in my Runes class back in Hogwarts. Very strange fellow. Had a fondness for hats.

I do hope you're enjoying yourself, Narcissa. I'm packing up for Hogwarts at the moment, and after I stop off at the Palace I will be heading up there in order to get settled before the students arrive. Echo will be coming with me; I'm picking up Rosie from Harry's and I'll turn them both over to Hagrid for the whole of the term. They'll be very happy together, all three of them.

Cheers, speak again soon.

If that is what you prefer to call it then so be it. Why, exactly, are you 'shiny'?

You have brought this upon yourself. Remember that. This is not easy for any of us. Not Draco, not myself, and not for you either. I cannot tell you how to fix this. You must come to that conclusion on your own.

I would NEVER mean to say I told you so, but... SURELY someone wrote what I said that day she was wed?! SURELY?! I am certain it was applicable to this!!!

blondenarcissa @ 2003-08-30 10:37 pm UTC

It is terrible, is it not?

I do not think that there is much one could say about this, Sibyll.
