The Annual Malfoy Hallowe'en Gala was quite successful and much less eventful than the soiree that Lucius and I held last year. I am ever so glad for that as it had taken the house elves days to get the scorch marks out of the silk curtains! The identity of the person or persons who had transformed our giant puffskein into an adolescent dragon is still a mystery but I have not forgotten about the incident in the slightest. If Charlie Weasley had not been present the entire Manor could have been destroyed by the ghastly beast! Fortunately, though, Charlie's services were not needed this year. (Although it would have been lovely to see him again. We had an ever so pleasant time together in Romania this Summer and I do enjoy his company very much.)

This year Lucius did manage to acquire the chimaera he had wanted so badly. It is a magnificent creature, extremely rare, and did cost a great amount of galleons. However, the excitement in my Lucius's eyes that was a direct result of finally having a chimaera for the centerpiece of our gala was well worth the gold that we spent on it. I was pleased as well, particularly so when I noted how well the creature's colouration went with the Hallowe'en decorum in the ballroom!

Lucius was quite dashing in his costume, the perfect Cardinal Richelieu to my Marie Antoinette. I daresay that my extravagant hairstyle surprised him when he first saw me but I was certain to explain that my coif was one that Marie herself had worn as she was the most fashionable of her day. I even wore a hair comb that once belonged to her! In fact, much of my jewelry that evening had been hers. I have always been fascinated with her and through the years Lucius has managed to gift me with a great many items that had belonged to her. I found it only fitting that I should attire myself as her for the gala. Lucius, I find, looks very handsome in scarlet. We made the perfect couple, if I do say so myself.

A great number of people were in attendance, some standing out more than others. Although I have now had a few days to ponder over it, I have come to the conclusion that I still do not understand Sylvia's costume in the slightest. It had something to do with a new diet, I presume, as she did offer me a single wafer and red wine at one point and I believe I overheard her telling another person that the wafer, despite its light appearance, would be rather 'filling'. I declined her offer on principle. Sirius came garbed as Severus and only took time to greet him briefly. (I did, however, mind that he keep his distance from Lucius and myself.) Xiomara and Sibyl were tarot cards. It was a very clever idea but not a practical one, I am afraid. Xiomara seemed rather surly, moreso than ususal. Of course, I do believe that if the woman had an actual feeling of happiness, she would self-destruct.

Despite the great number of guests, Lucius and I did manage to find some 'alone' time and stole out to the gazebo he had built for me when I was carrying Draco. That was quite lovely and I was very sorry that we had to go back inside to attend to our guests. It is a good thing that we returned when we did as some things began to go awry shortly after we reappeared in the ballroom.

To best serve our guests, we had charmed several suits of armor so that they would not object to having a number of house elves placed inside of them to cater the party. It was a lovely idea and our house elves had quickly gotten used to maneuvering about inside the armor, carrying trays and distributing drinks and food and such. However, apparently the charms that Lucius and I cast wore off much more quickly than we would have liked. The suits began to toss the house elves from within their depths and Kiki Leavensworth got hit in the head with a flying elf! Oh, heavens, the chimaera became upset and started bellowing and house elves were shrieking and armor was running about.

I was so flustered that I simply fainted away. I awoke in Lucius' chambers the next morning and I still have not been down to the ballroom nor have I asked him what happened after I blacked out.

It could not be as horrible as last year, that much I am certain...and I am glad for it.

Mrs. Malfoy,

I am sure your Hallowe'en Gala was the highlight of the week. I have always heard you have impeccable taste for decorations and a knack for arranging any sort of celebration. I look forward to a time where you might invite me to attend such a gathering.

Respectfully,
