Current mood: curious

Honestly, some professors are such hypocrites. As is most of the world, really.

In other news, tonight I had a very enjoyable detention with Professor Flitwick (though he seemed kind of surprised to have me foisted on him at the last minute) but we helped the Ravenclaw first-years clean out a bathroom (actually, mine and Goyle's, as the house-elves won't touch it lately), and then we had a talk. I asked about his days as a duelling champion- I didn't realize he was the -Hogwarts- duelling champion back when that meant something- when they still taught Dark Arts instead of this so-called Defense stuff. Pretty amazing what more than a hundred years can do to a school. He actually Charmed up an illusion of an old duel for me- he was a lot taller in school! Apparently he fell foul of a bad hex, something like that. It was really great- I didn't know you could do half the stuff they did! One thing that was pretty surprising was that they were casting the Unforgivables (well, only two of them, obviously) around every so often - and countering them too! Apparently they were only banned recently (though that's a Flitwick recently). Nothing like that awful farce that that Lockhart man made us do through in second form.

Flitwick was really enthusiastic about the duelling tradition - apparently the old forms have fallen out of style since the Killing Curse came into vogue. He did mention that he thought Dumbledore would know a lot more, being twenty or so years older than him and apparently pretty good at duels in his own right (though, Flitwick said a bit waspishly, better at avoiding them).

Off to try to avoid the constant sordid rumors about Professors Snape, Sinistra, Black, and Lupin that've been going around by doing some research in the library. Hopefully Granger won't be there to pester me this time.
