Salutations, Sickness & Sorry Spirits
Dearest salutations to the delightful company of Hogwarts and "others", especially to my beloved Hufflepuff house.

Now that I have completed my independent study, I thought it wise to become involved in this journal-thingie as quickly as possible as it seemed quite a lot of fun and educational besides, despite the reservations expressed by some of my fellow housemates who may have been just a touch over-jealous with their comments. Although recent event between less controlled members of the Hogwarts community may suggest otherwise.

I was not present in the library to help with the situation when it occurred (something that I remain vaguely thankful for) to help in a Prefecture manner, I am glad there was a teacher present to deal with this unfortunate...mess. I heard the clean up was quite a colourful business, especially considering the injuries sustained. Not that it is a joking matter, school rules clearly state that it is strictly forbidden to...oh, never mind.

The detention that the house undertook last week was not as harsh as some (I will refrain from mentioning any names) made it out to be, but I am fearing for the health of the house in general, as several are now demonstration the first signs of a rather nasty cold. My advice to anyone from Hufflepuff showing any symptoms to report to Madam Pomfrey post-haste just to be on the safe side. However...I do not believe that the detention was some alterative plot against the Hufflepuff house as a whole concocted by Harry. In fact, I think he may just be a pawn in these unfortunate circumstances. Much like the rest of us.

My best wishes to Justin, I hope you're feeling better soon, Justin. Eloise - Do you want to have a game of exploding snap tonight and make sure that Justin does not leave his bed? And perhaps a nice girlie chat by the fire with Sue as well? I missed those while you were sick and I'm glad that you are feeling better.

And is everyone looking forward to the up-and-coming Quidditch game? Luck to you, you and especially you - I don't know how you all do it...I get nervous just watching you up there!

Go Hufflepuff!

I just thought I'd extend a welcome to you on behalf of the Slytherin house.

How delightfully civil of you, Pansy.
It is nice to see you back after your voyage of France:- you seem much better back here, and for that, I am glad.

How sweet of you to say so, Hannah. I'm glad to be back, and I'm certain that the other houses (and your own) fully intend to extend welcomes to you as well as soon as they finally notice your arrival.

Don't mention it, Pansy.
One can only hope that there will be others who will follow your exemplary example and change their attitudes towards fellows students before others take action and retailate rather nastily. Not that revenge proves anything, really.
But I'm sure that you can understand fully, Pansy.

Yes, revenge doesn't prove anything. Although I think it could be said that some don't even wait for revenge to treat others nastilly. They do it without any sort of provocation. How unfortunate it's such a prevalent problem among the students here at Hogwarts, as I'm sure you understand well enough yourself. Perhaps the prefects could attempt to address this problem and find a way to resolve it.

They do it without any sort of provocation.
This, sadly, is very true. People have been fighting for years, some others for generations and we are almost powerless in our attempts to stop them from continuing...especially as outsiders. Do we even remember when and how these fueds started to begin with?
I fear it is too bigger a problem even for the Prefects to stand against, Pansy...I think the brawl in the library (of all places) proves my point adequately.

I, myself, find the incident in the library a rather embarrassing reflection on both the Gryffindor and Slytherin houses. Although it is interesting to see how much hostility exists due to inherited rivalries (of family or house) or similar motivations. In the end, it is usually impossible to see where the blame lies and if it lies anywhere at all.

I am just thankful that none of my house were present when Mr Malfoy and Mr Weasley lost their tempers (in a most undignified manner) and caused chaos.

Blaming is not the answer in old rivalries...the ability to see the good in people would be a good place to begin.
