Bad week, bad bad week.
Hullo, who died? I just got back from the hospital wing and everyone is gibbering about something or another. Oh well. Sirius is okay now, in case anyone doesn't know by now. It's bloody crowded in there, what the hell? Madam Pomfrey is going insane and she shoved a mountain of chocolates and cards into my face and shooed me out of the room. Mental, that one. Who sent me all these Chocolate Frogs anyway? And a card from Parkinson? What the sod does she want?! And three from Eloise and a poem... Huh?

And where on earth is Ginny?! I hope Torik is with her, he really likes Dante for some strange reason. I heard from Professor Lupin that they're going to confiscate Torik, but why the bloody hell for?! It is the size of a Snitch! What sodding harm can it do? Peck off all your eyebrows while you're asleep?! I burnt myself, dammit! It's not Torik's fault, that stupid thing could hardly light a match! Well, I was trying out a spell to sort of, uh, makemyessaylonger BUT IT OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T WORK and the parchment caught fire and so did my sleeves. THAT'S why I has to go get my right hand bandaged up, THAT'S all! Torik is a gift from Professor Lupin, HE wouldn't give me something dangerous! SO BLOODY GIVE MY DRAGON BACK!

Typing with my only left hand is taking years so I won't update much about what happened this week. Oh wait, Fred taught me a typing spell once, let's see if it'll-

Ron Weasley still sleeps with the lights on and named his first pet Booger.
He is also pretty darn stupid to use this spell I taught him, ha ha ha!
No need to try the delete button, Ronnikins, it doesn't work.
Have a nice day!

...?!?!

FRED BLOODY WEASLEY, SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR KIDNEYS! I'M RIPPING IT OUT AND PLAYING SODDING QUIDDITCH WITH IT ONCE I GET MY HANDS ON YOU!

NOW I have to go hunt for Torik and Hermione and send a howler to my dearest brother.

Good to see you out and about again, Ron. I suppose you've learnt your lesson about hexing your homework? Afraid I'll have to take five points from you for that, but I'll give you five points back for teaching me how to beat Sirius at Wizard Chess. He's currently sulking because I've finally won a match for the first time in over twenty years. Thanks for that, and for your company in the hospital wing. Sirius surely appreciated it.

Sorry about the dragon, but perhaps it wasn't such a good idea to allow you to keep her in the dormitory despite her diminuitive size. Torik is with me now, here in my offices, and you are welcome to pop by and visit her whenever you like. She seems a little down at the moment, so perhaps you and Ginny should make a point to see her before the end of the day?

(Yes, incidentally, Torik is a she. You can tell by the pattern of her scales.)

Incidentally, I've owled Charlie about Torik and he had a very intriguing suggestion: send her to Bill to see if he can't break the Reducto Curse on her and restore her to her normal size, in which case she would then go on to live at Charlie's sanctuary in Romania (where he'd take very good care of her). I realise you're quite attached to her, so I will leave it up to you and Ginny to decide what's to become of Torik. I see no problem with her remaining in the Menagerie, and the fact is that since she was hatched and raised in captivity she can never be restored to the wild, so. What say you on the subject?

Call by my offices later. I need your help organising my notes from my recent journey Romania anyway, and if you bring Ginny I'll see if the house-elves can't conjure up some tea and we'll visit with Torik for a bit. Sound good?

TORIK IS A GIRL?! But, Professor Lupin! He breathes out very manly sparks! He can't be a SHE! TORIK is a very bloody manly name!! And OF COURSE HE'S staying! Ginny and I will go to your office in a while, I'll bring Dante, too, Torik seems to like it- OH! NO BLOODY WONDER! Only a GIRL dragon would like a stuffed toy so much! Bloody hell!

Professor Lupin, did you get special permission from the Ministry of Magic to have a dragon - even one that was shrunk - at Hogwarts? If you did, then I won't have to take so many points from Ron for breaking wizard law as well as Hogwarts' rules. *looks uncomfortable* I'm sorry, Ron - you know I hate having to take points from my own House. But considering that your own brother knows everything there is to know about dragons, I really don't understand what you were thinking.

But I'm glad you're better now and out of the hospital wing.
I... I've missed you.

Will you come with me to get a new cage for Torik tomorrow at Hogsmeade?

Yes, of course I will. *smiles shyly* Shall we see if Harry wants to meet up at the Three Broomsticks for a butterbeer after?

Hermione,

I seriously doubt that the merchant who sold me Torik would do so were it illegal, but to ease your mind I offer you a little reassurance by way of the Ministry's Beast Division, and a page from their guidelines regarding care of magical creatures:

While dragons that are or have the potential to become fully-grown are considered controlled beasts under Ministry law (something I wholeheartedly agree with), there is however what you might call a loophole with regard to Torik. The highlighted area reads: Any creature weighing less than 12oz is not subject to Ministry regulation provided that the animal is properly contained, unless otherwise indicated. Torik weighs in at a whopping 10oz.

I don't think there is any legislature regarding miniature dragons. Torik, it seems, is one-of-a-kind. Still, I've decided that the best place for her now is the CoMC menagerie. She seems to get along well with the Clabbert. Could be true love.

Anyway, I daresay there's more danger inherent in Ron's attempts to hex his homework than there is in Torik's admittedly questionable breath. Perhaps there should be Wizard Law with regard to the sale and trade of a Weasley?

Lupin-

Whether you want to argue the finer points of Wizarding Law with a sixth year student is completely up to you. However, it is rather interesting that school regulations are being relaxed in order to accommodate a pet dragon, miniature or not.

As far as I could tell, this is the second exception that Mr. Weasley has had. First, it was a rat that turned out to be an illegal animagus. Now it is a miniature dragon. In any case, they are both against Hogwarts rules and regulations.

The Hogwarts welcoming letter still states:
"Students may also bring an owl OR a cat OR a toad."

Have I missed something?

Severus,

You can hardly blame Ron for his rat being what it was. The boy had no idea that Scabbers was anything but an inherited family pet from a time when student familiars once included rats.

Why the rule was changed, I suppose you'd be better off asking Albus that one.

If we're going to debate favouritism, Severus, I suggest that before the stones start flying you step outside your own glass house.

The dragon in question has been confiscated, the Prefect will hand out punishment as she sees fit, and that will be that.

A sense of humour is not quite what I would call it, Pansy, not quite.
