The Hallowe'en ball has come and gone and it was a relatively forgettable affair. After all, any event lacking the distinguished presence of such an important person as my boyfriend can hardly really be considered any sort of success. However, Millicent and I took it upon ourselves to fill the great void he left by not having the opportunity to attend.

It was a rather last minute decision, however, so we did not have the luxury of polyjuice potion as it takes 21 days just to brew the lacewings. (Not to mention that after last year, we had no doubt it would be in high use - perhaps even overly used - when some of the muggle-borns realized that it is considered a legitimate costume among wizards). Of course, Millicent and I also looked forward to the challenge of trying to make ourselves look like Harry Potter and Draco through other means since we did not use the potion nor are either of us metamorphmagi.

I thought perhaps I could get some Harry Potter-type accessories at the costume shop. It only made sense after all since the commercial industry has always loved to cash in on those who are considered something of a celebrity. (Merlin costumes have always been in high demand this time of year). However, the search was something of a disappointment, although I did discover that the "Baby Harry" costume is quite a popular choice for infants.

Millicent and I enlisted the help of Draco for accuracy of our costumes. At first he resisted but I know he just likes to be difficult so Millicent and I persisted in our endeavor. Finally, he relented upon realizing that we only wanted to make up for his lack of presence at the ball, and I do believe he was quite flattered by our idea in the end.

Draco was, of course, very strict about Millicent's portrayal of him, demanding she even put a small fake scar on the back of his ankle for realism's sake. (It really is the most darling thing.) We also placed partial vanishing spells on our hair to make it look shorter, and another spell for colouration. Mine, however, took a few more to make it look properly messy while Millicent had to borrow Draco's SleakEasy to flatten hers down. The clothing and accessories were far more difficult to acquire (or at least for me they were) and I told Millicent that this was the downside of not using polyjuice potion. If we had, we would not have had to worry about robes and such because Harry Potter and Draco would have been our costumes. (Although Millicent did not have to concern herself at all with finding socks as Draco did not have any, I had to locate a set of Gryffindor Robes and a pair of round spectacles.)

The Hallowe'en ball itself ran quite smoothly, though the dessert table was lacking in comparison to last year. They had no cream puffs at all, and Millicent and I had to content ourselves with measuring bananas by the mouthful. We grew tired of that quickly enough, however, and I tried to engage Millicent in some dancing (although she did not care for such and instead did an admirable impression of Draco, wrinkling her nose in distaste and leaning on things). Luckily we very quickly stumbled upon a "Ron" (or rather just Justin Finch-Fletchley dressed up) to complete our costume nicely. It was only unfortunate that we did not come upon Hermione Granger as I'm sure she would have quite appreciated our efforts.

When the ball was done, we brought Draco back a plate of goodies, and then Millicent and I spent a cozy night together, snuggled down beneath the covers to keep warm. It was a chilly evening but my feet remained quite toasty.

I don't do things just to be difficult. I can't help it if I'm of a complex level of difficulty.

Either way you are far too adorable when difficult, Draco dear.

I see you've posted a photo. This is not slightly disturbing.

I am only sorry that you aren't in the picture as well. I wish we had more photos of the three of us.

Well, it's likely for the best that photos of me are dedicated solely to myself. There is, of course, the portrait that Millicent and I had done in which you can only see the top of my head. I rather think that Millicent and I can't be photographed together.

My hair is probably messier than that.

You're right. It probably is.

You and Millicent were perhaps the most disturbing costumes of the evening, Pansy.

Well done.
