I decided to spend a quiet evening preparing for my upcoming NEWTs. After all, they do play a significant role in one's future occupation so it should be unsurprising that I am determined to score exceedingly well on them. However, it seems that things rarely go as planned as of late and my night in the library was anything but peaceful. I was minding my own business entirely when I decided to retrieve some additional study material. I was looking specifically for a volume entitled, "Theories of Advanced Arithmancy and Its Applications" because it is known to be one of the most comprehensive books on Arithmancy ever written.
It just so happened that Hermione Granger was also in the Arithmancy section but I was very focused upon finding the book in question that I hardly even noticed her there. Of course, I had absolutely no idea that she happened to be looking for the same book as I was. Well, I admit I don't know who spotted it first as I wasn't paying any attention to what she was doing, but I am absolutely certain that I got to the book first. Apparently, that was no deterrent for Hermione Granger, however, as she grabbed right on to it a second after myself.
Now, any civil person would have just let go of the book, possibly even apologized - although I certainly wasn't expecting Hermione to apologize to me. I shall even go so far as to say that if any one had asked me the night before whether or not I thought Hermione Granger would just keep on grasping at the tiny corner of the book she had managed to get her fingers on like she did tonight, I would have told them no. You see, despite our differences, I have always held her to be somewhat of a respectable person considering she is a prefect (although really with her recent acts of violence toward my boyfriend, I am not sure why I did not anticipate a different reaction). Still, she surprised me horribly when she had the gall to insinuate that I ought to be the one to give her the book.
I asked her as politely as I could manage to let go, but Hermione Granger completely refused to do so. I suppose a better person than I would have let her have the book despite having gotten to it first, but her behaviour and attitude toward the matter was just so infuriating that I tugged a bit harder at my end. I admit perhaps I got carried away, but she was screeching the most atrocious things at me, and the next thing I knew the book had torn down the spine and ink had exploded everywhere.
I was horribly displeased as I was wearing one of my favourite robes, and I was positive that even with the best cleaning spell it would stain because it was clear the book had been printed in some sort of magical ink. But I had finally gathered my wits, and after a deep breath and straightening myself out a little, I decided I would say nothing more and just go straight back to the Slytherin Commonroom.
However, I suppose I must have accidentally bumped into Hermione on my way out as she suddenly pushed me and began to accuse me of ruining the book and shoving her on purpose and all other sorts of nasty things I shall not even dare to repeat. I could barely control my temper, and of course, I had to protect myself when she attacked me. Still, my behaviour was unbecoming and Professor Lupin was not too pleased when he finally separated us.
As sorry as I am about my own inability to control my temper, I do not think I deserve to spend an entire morning of detention with Hermione Granger binding books without using our wands. After all, I was only trying to keep Hermione Granger from shoving her fist into my face as she did to my boyfriend after our winning quidditch match.

Darling, I don't see how that is even important. In any case, Professor Lupin interrupted us in the midst of all of it so I really couldn't tell you.

Darling Ronald, how flattering of you to say so, although I do not fancy anymore bruises than I already have.

Draco, darling, you know I am not one to condone violence, and there really wasn't a clear cut winner, but I assure you I certainly can hold my own in a fight.

There was quite a bit of tumbling and rolling, so neither of us stayed on top for very long, but when Professor Lupin separated us we were on lying on our sides.

Fine, then. Do you expect Granger has more bruises than you?

Well done, Pansy. Shall I get you a towel and rub your shoulders?

Oh, Ginny dear, please don't concern yourself too much over the disagreement between Hermione and I. I am certain it was some sort of misunderstanding and you know, I would rather focus on more important things like being there for a friend.

Thank you, Ginny, I appreciate it. Although if it doesn't come out, care to accompany me when I buy a replacement?

You're really quite lucky I didn't shove my fist into your face, Pansy. And don't act like you don't deserve detention, because the both of us do.

I do think I deserve detention, but having to spend it with you is another matter entirely.
