Poor Draco!
Poor darling Draco! I've barely seen him outside of classes because he's spent so much time in detention with Harry Potter. Although, of course, I do understand that what happened at the Hallowe'en ball was rather a big fuss so somebody had to be punished. Still, sometimes I can't help but wonder, not seriously of course, if our professors have some sort of quota of detention hours they must fill in order to keep Hogwarts in tip-top shape. On occasion it feels as if 50% of the school's upkeep is not done by house elves or ground keepers at all, but rather us students.

This evening Draco is to do some work for Professor Sprout. Of course, I warned Draco of that horrid flesh-eating vine that Professor Sprout owned. (Really an amazing plant, visually stunning, but it nearly took my arm off last time!) However, Draco already knew of it. (Actually, he told me it was some sort of Mandrake-eating variant, but really essentially those are still far more similar to flesh-eating plants than other plants in behaviour and other habits). I told him that my mother had experience working with these sorts of things and the best way to avoid getting bit is to - well - mask your scent. It is best to use things like pine or mint or fruity-type-smells, so I gave him my strawberry lotion and peach perfume. He didn't look too enthusiastic, and I think perhaps he thought I was merely being silly and won't use them at all.

Regardless, I know he'll be exhausted after detention. I've taken it upon myself to leave him some sort of snack when he comes back into the common room (and of course, I've cast a few wards this time so Crabbe and Goyle can't get into the food before he does!) Monday was tea and cream puffs. Tuesday, a nice roast beef sandwich. Wednesday, chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream (with roasted coconut and chocolate sauce, of course). Tonight, I'm likely doing shortbread and some hot earl grey...

Oh yes, and mother sent an owl this afternoon. She asked me to come home for the weekend, but I wrote back I had far too many things to do. Of course, she keeps pestering me about my plans after I've finished with Hogwarts. She wants to know whether I still plan to get a job with the Ministry. I told her that I certainly did and that I was also looking into working in magical law. I'm sure when she reads that she will be absolutely horrified.

In any case, Millicent and I have spent some lovely quiet evenings together. She really is a lifesaver. Sometimes I do believe if I didn't have her, I would go insane.
