I would like to take this opportunity to remind you all of several key dates within the future.

11 and 12 October are this term's first Hogsmeade weekend. All third years must have their permission slips turned into me by this date. There will be no exceptions. Older pupils are reminded that return to Hogwarts is expected by 23.00 on Saturday and 21.00 on Sunday.

18 October is the first Quidditch match of the year. Good luck, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw.

31 October is, of course, Hallowe'en, and the Headmaster would like to proceed with a Hallowe'en ball despite the debacles of last term. Mr Potter, Mr Malfoy, I should not need to remind the both of you that you have been banned from the next ball at Hogwarts, which would indeed be this one. For everyone else interested in attending, the ball shall begin at 19.00 and will last until 00.00. Professors Snape, Flitwick, Vector and Wiglorn, please see me. You have been selected to chaperone. Professor Lupin, you may take the day and evening off.

While 5 November is indeed Guy Fawkes Night, I must ask at this time that those of you who are so inclined refrain from lighting bonfires.

Sixth years are reminded that the O.W.L.s missed last term have been rescheduled to 15, 16, 18 and 19 of December.

Good day.

Professor M. McGonagall

You know Professor, it really wasn't Harry's fault
