Current mood:beyond all feeling.

Attn: Hogwarts.
Now that the dust has settled, and I have actually been given some pertinent information by our august and almighty headmaster, I have some announcements to make regarding the so-called "Love Your Neighbour Week."

By now you should all have either located your partners via their most prized possessions, or by meeting in Professor Dumbledore's office after dinner if you did not find your partner before then. To clarify for everyone, who is no doubt simply dying to know, the partners are:

Students

Harry Potter and Justin Finch-Fletchley
Hermione Granger and Ernie Macmillan
Ron Weasley and Pansy Parkinson
Draco Malfoy and Lisa Turpin
Seamus Finnigan and Terry Boot
Dean Thomas and Queenie Greengrass
Neville Longbottom and Gregory Goyle
Lavender Brown and Vincent Crabbe
Parvati Patil and Theodore Nott
Mandy Brocklehurst and Blaise Zabini
Padma Patil and Hannah Abbott
Millicent Bulstrode and Susan Bones
Ginny Weasley and Filbert Q. Snodgrass
Colin Creevey and Luna Lovegood

Staff
Profs. Snape and Black
Profs. McGonagall and Vector
Profs. Sprout and Wiglorn
Hagrid and Professor Flitwick
Madam Hooch and Argus Filch
Profs. Sinistra and Trelawney

These will be your partners for the rest of this week, which the headmaster tells me is to be one of "fun and fellowship." You may believe him as you like, I am sure.

Because normal lessons have been cancelled, some teaching teams will teach a specialised lesson for two hours each day.

Schedule
Tuesday: McGonagall-Vector
Wednesday: Sinistra-Trelawney
Thursday: Hagrid-Flitwick
Friday: Snape-Black

Some other teaching teams, it appears, get off scot-free. One wonders how sizeable the bribe was.

Do not think that this is how you will all fill your week, with the rest of your hours being free. Oh, no. We must all of us also Improve Ourselves Individually, thus sayeth the headmaster. Thus, by the end of the week, you must have completed ten good deeds from the following list. If you complete one of the following deeds with your partner, it counts for two deeds. I believe. I confess it is unclear to me and seems to undermine the purpose of "individual" improvement, but heaven forfend that I gainsay Headmaster Dumbledore.

Approved Good Deeds, from the Headmaster's Desk
Do a chore for a teacher.
Hug a teacher. (At your peril.)
Teach your partner a new skill.
Clean your partner's pet's habitat.
Make someone laugh.
Give someone a pleasant surprise.
Straighten up for someone not in your house.
Make breakfast in bed for someone of your gender.
Obtain something that someone needs and give it to them.
Paint or draw a portrait of your partner for the rebuilt North Wing.
Broomstick maintenance (restricted to pairs with Quidditch players)
Get to know a Hogwarts house-elf.
Engage a portrait in conversation.
Teach a professor something they don't know.
Let Professor Trelawney read your fortune.
Be nice to everyone for an afternoon.
Find someone who is having a bad day and cheer them up.
Schedule yourself to fill in on another professor's lessons on their birthday. (Staff only, you fools.)
If you are Muggle-born, teach a Wizard-born something about Muggles that would surprise them. If you're Wizard-born, vice versa.
Write a poem about your partner.
Discover something selfless and do it.
Do a good deed not on this list.

Because my migraine is not severe enough, I am also to inform you that on Saturday, all the pairs who are of suitable age will go to Hogsmeade together for a Valentine's Day celebration at the Three Broomsticks, unless of course you are wise enough to fake a sudden attack of full-body paralysis or death.

All of the passwords to the common rooms have been disabled for the week so that you and your partners may visit freely with each other, Merlin help us all. Black, I will take this opportunity to remind you that, as my "partner," you are also in co-charge of this project (ah -- did Dumbledore fail to inform you? How remiss of him) and that I have absolutely no intention of running this complete farce on my own. Be prepared to shoulder your share of the load for once in your life.

These rituals of fun and delight begin tomorrow. Record your good deeds as you perform them. I also advise witnesses, since I, for one, am unlikely to believe most of you on your word alone.

And now: good night. I will attend to no more of this nonsense until tomorrow.

- Professor Severus Snape

Sir, what happens if our partners become suddenly ill?

potterstinks @ 2004-02-09 10:21 pm UTC

Also, when will we be getting our belongings back?

potterstinks @ 2004-02-09 10:25 pm UTC

Professor Snape, are you aware that there is a Filbert Q. Snodgrass in Slytherin?

Re:

1) How should I know?
2) At the end of the week.
3) Of course I knew this, Malfoy. What did you think?

I just thought it was strange to discover there's a Filbert in our house.

There is no such thing as good deeds. Conspiracy.

I hate to find myself agreeing with a Ravenclaw, so I will not.

GET AWAY FROM ME. YOU ARE LUCKY THAT DID NOT ACTUALLY OCCUR ON MY PERSON.

Quick, Severus. I don't think anyone's volunteered to take Black's lessons on his birthday. Surely you won't want to miss the chance at that.

Re:

I believe that would count as a good deed towards the whole school, thus mitigating my need to do any more for the rest of the week.
