Current mood: accomplished

Black is night's cope
Once more a holiday has come and gone much too quickly. My Draco is well on his way back to school and I find that I shall have to immerse myself in various obligations so that I may not dwell too long on the pain of being parted from him. I do so adore my charming son and it shall be an eternity before I see him again, I fear. Although I am more than aware that such is life, it cannot dull the throbbing ache that has welled up in the deepest cavern of my chest.

Despite the the anguish I am experiencing at being parted with my son, I must confess that I am thinking back to these last few days that I have had with him wearing something of a stunningly nostalgic smile.

While the Perkses were guests at the Manor, Draco was quite the brilliant host to their daughter Sally-Anne. Although I have always thought Draco to be extremely hospitable, I found that his kindness to Sally-Anne went above and beyond the call of social duty. My Little Dragon has grown up to be quite the thoughtful gentleman. Lucius and I have done a superb job in raising him; Draco has made and will continue to make us proud of him.

Last evening we had the most exquisite meal in an elegant little établissement that is renowned for being quite exclusive. Of course, we Malfoys were seated immediately and at the very best table in the room. Over a several-course meal (of which the highlight was a rather scrumptious duck a l'orange - very delicious owing to the strong hint of ginger about it), we had the most enlightening conversation about various people with whom we are acquainted in one way or another. We agreed that so many people have thrown caution to the wayside these days and have taken about a rather careless manner. For shame! Those who behave in such a base manner should not be surprised when tragedy befalls them. I find that I feel quite badly for those who act in this way.

For all that we agreed on throughout the course of our lively conversation, I do wish that Draco and Lucius would have been a bit more enthusiastic about a particular topic that I raised. I know that I cannot have them fancy everything that I do; however, I would really quite like it if they would appease me and be a bit more accepting.

Oh, darling--

It is simply that the topics you brought up were a bit too painful to contemplate, given recent events. You know that Draco and I both adore you. I've brought you some of the candied ginger you like and fresh papayas. Shall we shop? I do so need your advice in Transylvania.

I can understand your point of view but I must remind you that sometimes pain can lead to something resembling redemption of a sort.

Oh, I have been craving those very things all morning long! After I partake in a bit of nosh, I do believe shopping shall be in order.

I am always willing to give you advice, Lucius.

Pain often does lead to a suprising conclusion; however, those who have inflicted it upon themselves might not take such a concept gladly. You are so very wise, my love. I am so lucky to have you. Draco is too.

That is true in some instances; in others, false. Yes, I am quite wise, Lucius.

Let us shop and enjoy each other. Certainly the value of family has been illustrated all too starkly in recent days, has it not?

Yes, I quite agree on all accounts. I should like to shop later this evening in the streets of Crete. It is ever so lovely there at sunset.

Shall we eat our supper there as well? It should be a lovely night for dining al fresco.

I think that is a lovely suggestion. We shall sup there.
