I'm afraid that, in the past, many people we (we meaning Harry, Ron, and me) never would have suspected of wrongdoing have been, well, doing wrong, and it we (we meaning Harry and me) had a lot of theories, Percy, not just - well, that you helped Pettigrew escape. Please believe me when I say we never meant any harm, and we never - we just got carried away with suspecting - everyone really. We never should have, and we never should have brought up the theory to Ron, either. I'm sorry, Percy.

Of course we did, Percy. We also stopped to consider that you were hardly around at all when George died, and frankly, I found that alarming, and difficult to believe. I may be an only child, and I enjoy studying and other scholarly pursuits, but I cannot imagine finding solace in work when such a tragedy occurs. Your mother was devastated that you weren't around, Percy; I was there more than you were, and it shouldn't have been that way at all. You didn't even go to Ginny's birthday party. You sent Penelope to it instead. It is breaking my heart to say all of this, but I have not made light of your relationship with them. I have worried about it and been tearful about it. I don't want to think anyone capable of watching their own brother die but I also don't want to think you incapable of grieving with your own family.

Did it occur to you that I work at the Ministry of Magic, Hermione? Perhaps it did not. Perhaps you were not aware that I have been spending extra hours at the Ministry in the Department of Mysteries--a department I do not work in--in order to follow the pursuit of Pettigrew and the other wizards who have been suspected as Death Eaters. I was not enjoying scholarly pursuits. At the Ministry of Magic I was able to be active in response to what happened to my brothers, rather than sitting helplessly. I am sorry that my methods are questionable to you. I am sorry that you do not feel that I grieve in the proper manner, that it was irresponsible of me to wish to do something rather than sit silently.

If you must know, I was purchasing a special wart removing potion for the Minister. I was in a rather irritable mood, as I had been woken up very early and sent to Knockturn Alley. When Draco Malfoy saw me at Gladrags, I was searching for a lime green bowler to replace Minister Fudge's; he lost it in a stray breeze. I was given the keys so that the general public would not be aware that the Minister needed to remove a wart.
Does this confirm your suspicions, Harry? Have I proven to you now that I am responsible for my brother's death? Are you satisfied now?
