Current mood: relaxed

If only a quieter week were in the cards...
First off, I can't believe the fuss that is being made over this entire detention thing. I mean, honestly! -_- The other three houses have all served detentions meted out by Professor Snape - some people just seem to want special treatment. A petition! Ha!

Anyway, on to more important things. We had an interesting divination class last week. Professor Trelawney gave a fascinating lesson on libanomancy - divination through the behavior of incense smoke. It's an older form of divination, dating back to the Old Babylonian period, circa 2000-1600 b.c. - the time frame in which all libanomanic manuals were written. The method is no longer quite so popular, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Reading the signs of the smoke seemed quite difficult in practice, actually. And it certainly didn't help that some students (who shall remain nameless for the purposes of this post) decided to blow and fan at their smoke patterns in attempts to shape them favorably. The entire intent of the lesson was to simply ask your question and then read the random smoke pattern. With all of that hand-waving nonsense going on, it really is no wonder that I was having so much trouble reading the patterns.

To be perfectly honest, though, I would have to say that libanomancy is one of lesser favorite branches of divination. It's just a bit too imprecise for me. There are too many possibilities for outside interference and disturbance of the random smoke patterns.

I think it's high time for a good night's sleep, so I will leave off here.

Good night,
Parvati

On the contrary, Miss Patil, Slytherin House is at the very least showing some initiative in their reaction to the detentions (however futile their efforts may be) by organising their petition, whereas the rest of you merely whinged on about it - or, in the case of Hufflepuff, staged a rather amusing little uprising.

Do not mistake common sense for cheap tactics for getting attention. They are Slytherin, not Gryffindor.
