The powers of evil are too great for those with weak minds
It is as I suspected.

I have elected to keep the animal on hand for research and study. A most fascinating creature, a rare breed not seen on this isle in several centuries. It is an enigma how one came to reside in this castle, though there is no mystery to its preference of the dungeons. It seems to be thriving now that I have established its proper source of nutrition.

Which proved to be most beguiling, as this morning Miss Brown and the Gryffindor Patil invaded my private chambers in an effort to molest and possibly abduct the feline for their own nauseant purposes. Their timing could not have been more appropriate entering the study at the exact moment the beast began to feed upon that which I had retrieved from Lupin's dire keep: a hapless Leporidae.

Or, as Miss Brown put it at decidedly high-pitched, stentorian decibels: "A poor little bunny."

I daresay I will not be seeing those particular students within a parsec of this particular specimen of Felidae Lamia.

I have elected to refer to this creature privately as Lilitou. It is a name that surfaced in my reading this evening (I also relieved Lupin of several of his tomes on the subject; judging by the layer of dust upon them I doubt he will miss them), and the animal seems to respond to it with some enthusiasm. If incessant bawling can be counted as enthusiasm. It will be also simple to notate in my daily observations of her behaviour, essential to the tractate I intend to produce on the subject. I do not recall any wizard having a live Felidae Lamia available to them for prolongued study. It will not be wasted.

Alternately, Longbottom was not in attendance yesterday during lessons. It is atypical of the boy to counter adversity with avoidance, as he has managed to attend with some regularity for six years while endearing himself to all as a complete buffoon. However now that someone has revealed the intent within he flees. This is somewhat vexing, as there is no room for cowardice in the indefatigable mind. If he is to be any sort of insidious savant of wizardry, he will face his timorousness rather than elude it.

Should Longbottom endeavor to abscond Potions lessons for a lesser study of bothersome Muggle chemistry (a faulty art if there ever was one), I will be discussing this with Dumbledore tomorrow.

The hour is late, and Lilitou has alerted me to the pressing matter of her feeding. I am most interested to see which type of cruor she prefers. Rabbit seems to make her querulous, so I believe I will try her on mice in the pursuit of quietude.

She is hungry; the castle waits.
