Current mood:annoyed

Awake.
That infernal ghost has awakened me once again, and I find myself unable to return to slumber. Thus I shall impart this knowledge upon you all via these wretched journals, no doubt enriching your lives beyond measure, and then I will make use of this time and organise my stores. I recieved a parcel of Snowdon lillies this morning, which are used to purify the Odour-Repelling Potions that Xiomara finds ever so useful against the stench in the broomsheds following those bloody Quidditch matches. I do not blame her, and shall endeavour to keep her well-supplied this season.

Something needs to be done about this blasted spirit that has elected to vex me. I have been to every ghost in the castle and none of them seem at all disturbed by the continuing harassment of Hogwarts staff. I suppose this is why that miserable whelp in the girls' toilet on the third floor is still here after fifty-odd years. I see that apathy extends itself even beyond the veil, as it were. Always good to know.

Also - Potter, do not even think about removing that snake of yours from Lupin's Menagerie. I have already done so. The most recent member of your fan club is now located in my office where I am observing it for suspicious behaviour. That it was able to tell you that it does not appreciate the ridiculous moniker you have given it, and it has vague memories of its true name, gives me pause. I warn you to stay the hell out of my office and not to try one of your daring Gryffindorian rescues. You will have your wretched creature back when I am through with it.

Now. The plants will not sort themselves. This entry is finished.

NB: Do not neglect your detention, Mr Boot. I expect you to promptly be in my office tomorrow following your lessons.

You have Snowdon Lillies?

God, I love those. They're really quite rare, unless you're from Snowdonia.

I am quite jealous, Severus!

They are indeed rare, if the price I paid for them is any indication. I have an acquaintance in Wales who keeps me in supply when she can.

You have no reason for envy, Lupin. They are ingredients, nothing more.

Must have set you back a few Galleons, at any rate.

I am jealous! I've only seen a Snowdon Lily once in my life, when my mother took me to visit a relative there when I was very small, before the bite. I remember them as being very beautiful.

'Ingredients' indeed, Severus.

I do not understand why you are in such a state over a small white flower, Lupin. I suppose it is pleasant to the eye, but certainly nothing to natter on at me about at this hour of the night.

Why are you not asleep, dare I ask?

Well, one man's ingredient is another man's treasure, you know.

The moon is waxing. I am not tired.

Ghost still giving you trouble then? Did we ever sort out who it is?

I had attempted to modify the Wolfsbane potion to encourage sleep even during the wax. Make a note of that and owl it to me for my records.

I do not know who the ghost was, nor do I care. I simply wish for it to stop snivelling outside my door at all hours. It is bad enough I should deal with the children when they are alive. Why am I cursed with their afterlives as well?

I am getting nothing done in talking to you.

Noted and owled.

My advice? Try speaking to the ghost. Perhaps she is merely waiting for her story to be told before she moves on. At the very least you can ask her to be quiet. Nicely, Severus.

Should I leave you to it, then?

Always the poet, Lupin. And always so infuriatingly considerate. It is a small wonder that the word "WELCOME" is not emblazoned upon your forehead.

I am feeling very fatigued, and the ghost seems to have silenced for the time being. However, I must finish sorting these plants before I make another attempt at slumber. I will not have the time to do it tomorrow.

And you ought to be sleeping as well, and not pestering your coworkers in the middle of the night. You do that well enough during waking hours.

Goodnight.

It is good that not even sleep deprivation can dull your rapier wit, Severus. I was afraid I would go the whole of the day without an insult. I feel much better now!

Enjoy the lillies. I know that I would, if I were you.

Goodnight.
