Current mood:enraged

Well, my Easter holiday has certainly been ruined. This morning I fell through the disappearing staircase near my room and sprained my wrist. There I was, minding my own business, when the stairs went from invisible to absent. Fortunately Mr Avery was at the Manor and able to fix it, as he's a friend of Father's and a mediwizard, but now the rest of my holidays shall have a damper on them. Of course, this isn't the first time I've fallen through the staircase, as it's quite difficult to tell whether the stairs are invisible or simply not there, but I'm usually rather alert to it. Sally-Anne Perks, whose family's been staying with us over holidays, was nattering on about something stupid at the time and caused me to be distracted. Naturally it's always been a bit of a problem that so many old manors like ours have disappearing staircases, but they did think that was quite a good way to put up defences ages ago. I do wish they could be fixed, but as they're part of the Manor's foundation, we've not been able to do anything.

I awoke Mother with the small amount of noise I made, and she and Father were simply beside themselves with worry. I could have broken my neck or something worse, but as I'm rather strong, it was only a sprain. Mr Avery fixed it quickly enough, I suppose, though I was of course in a great deal of pain prior to that. I'm fine now, but it was inconvenient.

Durmstrang doesn't return to school until Wednesday, but the Perks are leaving this afternoon. I do wish the Manor hadn't been filled with company for the entirety of Easter holidays, but I suppose it's all right, as it's not as though I saw them all that often. The Manor is so large that we often have guests for days without having to see them. I don't particularly mind Sally-Anne or her parents, but I'd rather not see them every day.

I don't like to say 'I told you so', but I did mention to Sally-Anne that it was going to rain today, and now look at the weather. Absolutely pitiful. I don't suppose I'll be able to practise my flying today. 'Practise' is such a loose word, of course, as one really doesn't need to practise. That is, if you're me, anyway. We do have a match against Gryffindor on 1 May, though, and since we've now lost nearly a fortnight of time to practise at Hogwarts, I've been flying with Sally-Anne during the break. She was quite a good Beater, so it's a bit disappointing that she's gone to Durmstrang. Of course, we do have a Quidditch pitch here at the Manor, so it's not difficult to practise. I suppose we could always go out in the rain, but getting soaked just for that seems so boring.

I'm not looking forward to returning to Hogwarts tomorrow, which should come as no surprise to anyone with a brain. I suppose it will be nice to see Pansy and Millicent, but other than that, it seems like a rather moot point. There are, after all, only two months left, and having been back to the Manor, returning seems like it will be even worse than it was before when I was last at Hogwarts. At least we shan't be camping in the upcoming months. I would assume not, anyway, but perhaps the headmaster is an idiot. That would be shocking.

Darling, are you certain that you will be all right? It pains me to know that my dear, brilliant son has had to experience such agony.

potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 04:17 pm UTC

Well, I do feel quite tired now. I may have to lie in for the majority of the afternoon.

blondenarcissa @ 2004-04-18 04:21 pm UTC

My, but you are mother's brave boy, aren't you? You take all the time you need to recover, Little Dragon. Do you expect to feel up to tea this afternoon?

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 04:26 pm UTC

I suppose, as long as it isn't anything with peach in it, as that upsets my stomach ever so much.

(parent)
blondenarcissa @ 2004-04-18 04:28 pm UTC

I will order Dacey to remove anything peach in flavour and in colour from the Manor posthaste.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 04:31 pm UTC

That's very thoughtful of you, Mother, as I'd not like to relive the year when peach was in fashion, in any case.

(parent)
blondenarcissa @ 2004-04-18 04:37 pm UTC

Yes, it is quite thoughtful of me, isn't it? I, too, would like to refrain from reliving 1993. Peach was everywhere and it was ever so dreadful. At least in 1993 the shade of peach that was in fashion was much less brilliant than the peach that was popular in 1984. I could not visit one shoppe without finding a woman with a dreadful skin-tone dripping in offensive peach from top to toe! It makes me recoil in horror at the memory of the fashions for infants and toddlers during that time. Rest assured that I did not dress you in peach, dearest.

potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 04:43 pm UTC

I've no doubt that you would never do such a thing, Mother. I imagine I'm quite lucky that I wasn't old enough to remember the travesty, though 1993 was bad enough. Millicent's mother had peach-scented perfume at the time, and she was actually surprised when I vomited on her shoes. It's not my fault she chose such an overpowering scent.

(parent)
blondenarcissa @ 2004-04-18 04:46 pm UTC

You are always so supportive of me, Draco. Thank you; I do appreciate it a great deal. Yes, you are quite lucky to have been too young to remember the dreadful Toddler Fashions of 1984. Mrs Bulstrode did have a peach phase; I remember it well. After taking tea at the Manor with her and she would Floo home, the floors first through third would smell of an orchard for days.

Darling, do you think you could tend to Sally-Anne? From what I understand, Dacey is trying to remove her and her mother Beatrice from the Manor at once due to their peach dressing robes.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 04:53 pm UTC

Of course, Mother. I'll just tell Sally-Anne to change her robes, as she'll certainly listen to me. Perhaps I'll mention that you find peach distasteful. Everyone does find your manner of dress to be quite impressive, from what I've gathered, as they rightly should.

(parent)
blondenarcissa @ 2004-04-18 05:13 pm UTC

Thank you, Draco.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2004-04-18 08:43 pm UTC

Now, Narcissa. Dare I speak of the Peach Toenail Polish incident?

(parent)
blondenarcissa @ 2004-04-18 08:45 pm UTC

Lucius!

Speak not of the Peach Toenail Polishing Incident!

(parent)
purestblood @ 2004-04-18 08:48 pm UTC

Did you find your trinket, love?

(parent)
blondenarcissa @ 2004-04-18 08:50 pm UTC

Yes, I did! Thank you, darling; I do look stunning in blue.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2004-04-18 08:52 pm UTC

Oh, yes, darling you do. I daresay it's one of your best colours, were I pressed to choose just one.

Shall we go to Paris for dinner? It's Draco's last night here and I do feel the urge to spend time together as a family. I've some things I wish to discuss with you both.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 08:53 pm UTC

I rather like French food.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2004-04-18 08:58 pm UTC

Very well. Perhaps that restaurant that looks out over the Opera house?

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 09:13 pm UTC

If we don't have to watch music, that's perfectly fine with me.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2004-04-18 09:18 pm UTC

We don't have to watch anything but the usual pageant of those with less to offer the world than we, my son.

(parent)
blondenarcissa @ 2004-04-18 08:54 pm UTC

Paris sounds absolutely divine--if, of course, it suits Draco's fancy. I would not wish to force him to do anything he did not want to do, after all. Perhaps he may be inclined to offer suggestion of a place more suitable to him. Things? Oh, how you tease me, Lucius.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 08:57 pm UTC

I, of course, would quite enjoy going to Paris, Mother.

(parent)
blondenarcissa @ 2004-04-18 08:58 pm UTC

Then Paris it is, darling! I do so like to see my charming son pleased.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2004-04-18 08:57 pm UTC

I do not wish to inflict any additional pain upon him, of course. If he deems travel too stressful, we shall of course appease his desires, whatever they may be.

(parent)
blondenarcissa @ 2004-04-18 09:00 pm UTC

Oh, of course you do not, Lucius! You are an exemplary father and would never dream of such things, that I know and can see quite plainly.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2004-04-18 09:03 pm UTC

Your faith in me means more than you'll ever know, Narcissa.

(parent)
petitemillicent @ 2004-04-18 05:30 pm UTC

You never say 'I told you so.'

Or brag.

Or take hours to dress.

M. B.

potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 05:47 pm UTC

Of course not. That would be rather unlike me, don't you think?

(parent)
petitemillicent @ 2004-04-18 06:02 pm UTC

I have redecorated your room.

M. B.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 06:10 pm UTC

Oh, that was thoughtful. I don't see why you went back to Hogwarts anyway. You could have easily stayed here.

(parent)
petitemillicent @ 2004-04-18 06:20 pm UTC

Yes.

I could have shared a room with Perks.

It is a dream come true.

M. B.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 06:52 pm UTC

Yes, because the Manor's so small that guests naturally are forced to bunk together.

(parent)
petitemillicent @ 2004-04-18 07:02 pm UTC

I will not be around you while you are around that thing.

M. B.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 07:07 pm UTC

Oh, fine. Be a child. Are you enjoying your time in the empty corridors of Hogwarts, then?

(parent)
petitemillicent @ 2004-04-18 07:14 pm UTC

They are empty.

That is good enough for me.

M. B.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 07:22 pm UTC

Mrs Perks has just pinched my cheek.

(parent)
petitemillicent @ 2004-04-18 07:30 pm UTC

Well.

You are a growing boy.

Without the growing, that is.

M. B.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2004-04-18 08:23 pm UTC

Are you quite sure you're all right? That is your broom hand, isn't it? Perhaps we should arrange a consult at St. Mungo's. I don't want you to lose your grip on your broomstick.

potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 08:32 pm UTC

Yes, it was my left wrist, but I'm quite fine now, Father. Of course, I imagine I won't be up to writing History of Magic essays when I get back to Hogwarts. I've not been driven insane by it, so I likely don't need to visit St Mungo's.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2004-04-18 08:50 pm UTC

I can send Wadie with you if you like; her handwriting is quite acceptable and you can dictate your essays to her. She rather likes being dictated to.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2004-04-18 08:52 pm UTC

That would be perfect, actually. I've always been fond of the idea of having an elf to follow me around school. She can carry my bag as well. I expect I shouldn't be carrying it on my arm for quite a bit, what with all of those books.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2004-04-18 09:00 pm UTC

She's surprisingly strong. An excellent suggestion.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2004-04-19 12:10 am UTC

We're off to Paris now, Draco; meet your mother and myself in the study.

I do hope your wrist is feeling better; I'm so sorry you hurt it.

potterstinks @ 2004-04-19 12:39 am UTC

It's all right now, Father. I'm quite glad you and Mother were there to take care of me.
