Dark Days
I'm hoping that maybe, maybe, if I write this all down here, it will make some sort of sense when I read it later. Because it makes absolutely no sense now.

We were in Divination (isn't that ironic? Divination, and we had no idea what was coming) and there was a vast crash and the building shook. We looked out the window to see that nearly the entire corridor had collapsed. Ron went flying down the trap door—Harry wasn't in class you see, we were letting him sleep—and Trelawney started very helpfully screaming about End Times or something and frightened the girls. I looked at Dean and he looked at me, and we knew we had to go, and Neville said we never could leave the girls, but somehow we got them to leave Trelawney behind.

We made our way down the ladder, only Lav, who was just behind Neville, slipped and fell on the floor before anyone could get to her. Dean lifted her up easy as anything, and Lavender was really quite brave—she was perfectly silent, just very pale. But the way out was blocked by the wreckage—Ron had stopped there—so we all went further down, to the storage room under the tower that Dean knew about. But that door was blocked, too. Parvati and I climbed over Ron and Dean through a high window, moved the crumbled stone out of the way, and we all emerged into the morning sunshine after wandering around in the dusty dark for nearly an hour.

We were coming round the front of the castle when we came upon Professor Lupin, who told us to head to the greenhouse where he'd left behind his class. We arrived and settled in trying to keep the kids calm, but sometime in there Ron wandered off. Half of Sprout's 7th years had Apparated to heaven knows where, most of them splinching themselves as we found later. Anyway, we got the young ones singing songs and Dean drew funny pictures on the glass with his wand and we all tried not to show them that we were afraid at all. And by 1 or so, we were rounded up and brought to the Great Hall.

I went immediately to the triage that Madame Pomfrey had set up, being as I'm getting ready to do mediwizard training and all, but it was grim at first. A few people patched up, but mostly just waiting and being ready. Dean came by but he got rather frustrated with the inactivity so he quickly wandered off with Boot to places unknown.

Oh, and Ron very helpfully got into a fistfight with Malfoy, becasue you know, we didn't have enough injured people to take care of. THAT was a nice waste of time and energy.

I drift off—I've learned to sleep standing up which the healers say comes in handy—and every few hours a few more people come in, or are brought in, and we help them. Dean is bringing me dinner, which is quite a change from the usual thing. And the missing list gets shorter, but where is Hannah's sister, or Soblessa, or Colin? Or Harry?

And so we wait.

Seamus, you've been absolutely fantastic. I know Harry will turn up soon. He's a great wizard, and he's good at looking after himself.

knight_to_h3 @ 2003-06-24 02:37 am UTC

Ron! You've got no voice left. You're scaring the young ones. Not here. This isn't the place for it. Harry will turn up, I'm very sure of it.

Re:

Ugh!! They're not doing enough!!! Or Harry would have been found by now, wouldn't he?! If he doesn't show up I'm turning you invisible too!!!!

seamus_f @ 2003-06-24 03:26 am UTC

While I'm sure that turning me invisible will make you feel better, it won't help anyone find Harry. They're doing all they can. Don't you think that Professor Black and Professor Lupin would personally tear down this castle brick by brick until they find him? Don't you think we all would help?

Maybe you could help me bring Hannah down here? And have you been sleeping at all? We could give you something, and you have my word we'll wake you the instant there is any news at all.

I'll bring Hannah, where's she?

He will. He is. There's nothing else to think.

Anyway, thanks. So have you. Come down when you've a break; I could use a chat.

So could I.

Seamus I'm so tired, she's my little sister and she was wearing her favourite hairclips, where's she? She's going to be okay, right?

seamus_f @ 2003-06-24 02:46 am UTC

Hannah, sweetheart, I wish that I could tell you that she's going to be okay but I don't know that. No one knows. There is every reason to hope that she will be, though. Cathy's a good, brave girl and I'm sure she kept her head.

Why don't you come down and we'll see if we can't give you something to get you sleeping? You can sleep down here with me, there are some extra beds. None of us will leave you alone, me or Mandy or Ernie or Susan or Justin. You have a lot of friends and you should lean on us now; that's what we're here for.

Re:

Thank you, but I can't sleep, I keep having nightmares and I can't stop crying no matter what I do, I want this to end now, I want Cat to just walk through the door right this second, I don't think I can take this any longer, Seamus. It shouldn't have to be her, I'm the older one, it should be be, she's so young.

seamus_f @ 2003-06-24 03:01 am UTC

Hannah, I want you to come down here right now, or I will come up and get you. We will let you sleep and you won't have any nightmares, I can promise you that, and things will look better after a good nap.

You don't want Cat to come back to a hysterical sister, do you? It's okay to cry—you have to cry—but I'm worried about you. We will find out what happened to Cat and we will deal with it then. Until we know, no borrowing trouble, right?

Re:

Can you come and get me? I'm sorry, I don't think I can walk right now. Thank you so much, Seamus, you're an amazing friend, I mean it.

Don't be sorry sweetheart. Of course I can come and get you. Stay right there.

Ernie? Can you help me bring her back?

Could you let Madam Pomfrey know

that Professor Sprout and I have bedded down all the magical plants that the mediwizards brought with them from London in the greenhouse. Once the missing students are found, if she needs anything extra for medipotions to treat them that is missing from her stores, just have her check with Professor Sprout, and we'll bring whatever she needs to the Great Hall.

Also, could please ask Madam Pomfrey to mix a sleeping draught or something for Ron? If he won't drink it, we'll get McGonagall to force him to do it. It's probably no news to you, but I think he's gotten maybe five hours sleep since Friday morning, and he's an absolute wreck.

Neville

wheresmytoad @ 2003-06-24 06:58 am UTC
Oh

You anticipated me on the potion. Dean told me Madam Pomfrey's already given it to Ron and he's sleeping now. Thank goodness. I hope he doesn't wake up again until we've got news--good news--about Harry.

Re: Oh

Two birds with one stone, mate. He brought Hannah to be and we got them both, and they're sleeping like lambs here on the cots.

(No, Ernie, they are not on the same cot.)

Any news is better than this, I reckon.

Do you need a kip for awhile, Seamus? I got some sleep last night, so I'm feeling much more rested. If you like, I could take over for you at the triage station if you need some sleep. I promise I'd wake you if/when they find more students and bring any with injuries in.

Neville, wanting to be helpful

Thanks, but I'm fine down here. There's so much waiting, I nap whenever nothing is going on. My sleep cycle has nothing to do with the sun now, but at least I'm getting some sleep. And Dean is still bringing me meals, and is often here when I nod off, promising to wake me if anyone comes in. He seems to be sitting watch over me or something. It's kind of nice.

Left you some pie and a butterbeer in the room, in case you get hungry. Boot and I've been digging through rubble all day, and I'm about to go back for another shift.
