out of sight, out of mind
Despite all protestations that such was unnecessary, Albus has proceeded with his dismal attempt at creating cheer amongst Hogwarts and the decorating has begun. This morning a pair of house-elves awoke me not an hour after I had lay down to sleep by entering my Tower to cast fairy lights at the ceiling. What an intelligent idea, I must say, and I have a hunch that it was Albus's own personal touch. How clever to litter the ceiling of the Astronomy Tower with fairy lights so that my students will be unable to see the stars over the blinding light of them.

The Gryffindorish Ms Brown and Ms Patil continue to vex me. During Monday's sixth year Astronomy lesson, they informed me that they could tell by the stars that it was to snow this week. A very clever assessment, given that it was snowing at the time. Sibyll has taught her students well.

Xiomara seems to enjoy the holiday season far more than is necessary, though were I her, I myself would enjoy it as the flying professor and Quidditch referee is hardly needed when it is snowing, as all Quidditch matches will not be held until long after February. I do hope she is enjoying her four month term of doing absolutely nothing. And yet she continues to parade about in her stripes and shinpads, as though at any moment an impromptu match may burst out in the Great Hall. You have to admire a woman who holds her ground.

However I am not the Quidditch referee, I am the Astronomy professor. This, unfortunately, means that I am required to continue life amongst the living, if you can call the hoardes of students and professors donning the abominable combination of red and green "the living." If I see one more sprig of mistletoe being stapled to one more doorway, I may, as they say, puke.

Albus has been looking into getting live reindeer to prance about the grounds. A spectacular idea if he has ever had one. I hear that reindeer stampede when provoked, and we are all familiar with Mr Malfoy's tendency to provoke.
