Current mood: happy

:)
the lantern festival was really fun! my mum came, and she brought these really nice mooncakes. i've never really been able to cook so mum had said before that she would bring them for me and i could just stick my note in it. but ernie said we shouldn't put our mooncakes in the pile with everyone else's, because the slytherins would probably mess with them, so we had to put ours in a separate hufflepuff pile and only take from that pile too but that was okay.

i felt kind of bad because justin's parents couldn't come because they're muggles and he said it would have taken them ages and ages to get there. he said it was okay, but i was happy to see my mum so i bet he would have been happy to see his too.

justin's lantern kept catching on fire and i felt pretty bad about that so i put his name on mine and put my name on his, but professor sinistra is really mad about it. she took points from hufflepuff and everything, but all i was doing was trying to help.

but the procession was really nice and i only got the bottom of my robes a little bit wet. there were big lotus flowers in the lake and candles and that was really pretty. plus there were fairy lights in all the trees, like during the yule ball, and i liked that.

ernie was gone all night, and we thought that was kind of weird. morag was hanging out with the seventh years and she made fun of us, but then she tried to apologise to me in our dormitory after the festival. i dont really get her sometimes. i try to be nice to her but it's hard when she always pretends not to like us around her older friends. and i dont know why she does that anyway, because the other seventh years aren't mean to us like that. i wonder if they think she's funny or if they really don't understand her either.

eloise and hannah's lanterns were really cool, and i think at least one of them should have one something but ernie says hufflepuff was left out of the contest on purpose. which is kind of weird, but proffesor sprout wasn't invited to be a judge, either. so that's weird.

then the fireworks started and justin and i got a really good spot by the lake and took our shoes off and let our feet dangle in the water. i was kind of worried about the giant squid but justin said he wouldn't hurt us. then we opened our mooncakes and justin got mine, and he said that he wrote the one i got just for me. it said, 'you have a cute smile and you're a really good keeper.' it was really nice. i liked it a lot. i am glad he thinks i'm a good keeper because sometimes i worry. then i had crumbs on my face, because i'm so clumsy, and it was really embarrassing, and justin wiped them off and i felt kind of dumb.

the fireworks were really neat though, especially the dragon one at the end. fred and george weasley charmed some to make rude words, which was kind of funny, but later my mum said it was immature. mum is kind of uptight like that sometimes. i hope she doesn't read this.

hannah was upset later because ernie refused to take her mooncake. ernie didn't want to open any because he said anyone could put anything in them, and hannah didn't want to tell him that hers was esepecially for him, so she had to keep it herself. i put my mooncake note in my bedtable drawer with my first letter saying i got into hogwarts and when i brushed my teeth i kept smiling at myself in the mirror. i don't think i have a very cute smile.

Susan, your smile is very pretty, and not insidious in the least, besides. :)
