Latkes!
I see Professor Lupin is getting better! That's wonderful to see.

I'm at Hogwarts, which is quite different from last year. Last year, in customary Hanukkah fashion, my sister, Jayna, and I hopped into acting like perfectly behaved, agreeable children, and Mum and Dad were consistently cheerful. This all ended around New Year's Day, but for the time being it made everything very pleasant and fun. Mum even re-charged Jayna's car battery without lecturing her for leaving her lights on overnight. I burnt the pudding, but either everyone lost their taste buds and didn't notice, or else they just didn't say anything.

I don't know why I can't cook. I do all right in Potions, and it's sort of the same thing, but I burn water.

Anyway, this year Mum and Dad don't mind that I've stayed at Hogwarts, but it's still a bit lonely. Jayna, I think, is irritated and thinks I'm trying to wave the fact that I'm a witch in everyone's face, but Dad wrote and said he spoke with her about that.

Stewart Ackerley stayed behind as well, so yesterday we took the first years out of doors and built forts for a snowball fight. The first years were really impressed with how ornate they were, although we used magic for that. Otherwise we would have been there all day. It was Stewart and me against the first years, and they completely killed us. I had to peel Stewart out of the snow because he got so packed in.

I'm forever thinking that the first years are younger than they are. For some reason I always think of them as babies, but I know I didn't feel like one when I was a first year. I would have taken them for something more mature, like maybe a giant alcohol binge, but since there are several days left in hols, I didn't want to peak too soon. I am kidding.

I had to take a third year Slytherin to the hospital wing because he stuffed himself with too many sweets, but otherwise things are pretty quiet here. My toad is very much in the Hanukkah spirit. He's been sitting on a latke, but I'm going to have to get rid of it soon because it's starting to get spoilt.

Well, this was dull.

Should I have included how many days are left until my birthday?

Why? No one cares when your birthday is. Of course, I expect you'll say you don't care when mine is, but if you didn't, you wouldn't have noticed that I've been updating the world on the matter, now would you?

How could I go without noticing, Malfoy? There were adverts.

Easily. I, for instance, have never noticed your birthday, because I simply do not care. If you didn't care, you would just ignore it, much as I did yours.

I didn't hand out adverts.

That's your fault, not mine. Besides, I didn't hand out any advertisements. That was My Mother.
