Row with Gran
I actually had a row with Gran last night. This never happens.
I was talking at dinner about the job as usual. I guess I've been talking about it quite a bit lately. I was telling her about how Sara and Guy and I have been digging up one of the south plots because the soil has become so acidic and what we were planning on planting there instead. And just as I paused to put a bite of dinner in my mouth, she said abruptly, 'I think you should quit that job, Neville.'
I almost choked. After I'd coughed up about half a lung and had some water, I said, 'But--but why? I'm learning ever so much and earning lots of money--'
'Muggle money,' she said darkly.
'That doesn't matter! The goblins will change it at Gringotts. Mr. Takakura is teaching me about plant chemistry, and that's sure to help me in potions and herbology next year--'
'That girl you're always talking about--' she started, and then stopped and frowned.
'What girl? Do you mean Sara? What about her? She 's really nice!'
She hesitated, and then seemed to change her mind about what she intended to say. 'I don't think you should be spending so much time around muggles.'
'I'm not going to quit my job!' I shouted, and she looked absolutely astonished. As well she should; I never say no to Gran. And then I added something really stupid. I never should have said it, but I was so upset about her having a go at Sara. Not that this is really an excuse. 'Since when have you had so much trouble with muggles? It makes you sound like a Deatheater or something.'
She let me have it then, all right. Oh, how she scolded! I certainly deserved it, and I apologized and everything.
But I'm not going to quit my job. I still don't understand why she wants me to.
