O.o Draco's summer job.
What?

So could anyone actually see Draco as the Minister of Magic? M.O.M.

That is so random! O_o

Is this Lucius's big solution to Draco's behaviour?

Yeah. I so don't think that this was the sort of recognition ickle Draco was looking for from his mum.

It's just so perfect. Arthur must be thinking the whole Malfoy family's nuts.

Wait, maybe not Arthur.

Dean is thinking the whole family is nuts.

Dean isn't reading it all, it's just too much work. What's he complaining about, there's only like 20 threads to catch up on. The wusses.

Draco as M.O.M.? Big aspiration.. LOL And I love the idea of Arthur escorting Draco back to Hogwarts... and then Narcissa thinks he's speaking mermish! *chortle*

I'm trying to figure out Draco's intentions. I must admit this action, while first making me burst out laughing, is a great way of thumbing his nose at Lucius' orders, which would be wonderful, but I have no idea if ps would ever do that.

Or is this just the return of kooky ps the entertaining clown? It sounds like him. Maybe I was hoping for too much in expecting to see effects of this weekend.

Has he gone off the deep end, believing that since the world is clearly insane anything's possible?

Part of some plan we don't know about yet but will?

Bah. No clue.

Yes, he does a few magic tricks, makes ballon golf-clubs and sings Draaaa-co Mal-foy at muggle children's parties.

God damn you, that was my theory!
haha, you always have insight. *snugs*
Really, it is such a bizarre thing for Draco to do. And he's clearly so angry right now.
It might just be for comic purposes.
Or it might be a huge '**** you' directed at Lucius. Let's face it. The boy's been undergoing huge trauma. His parents only notice him when he's in a lot of trouble. They didn't notice even when he was missing for 24 hours, in all probability *wandering the streets.* All he's been getting is abuse, and thus all he's been getting is angrier and angrier, as well as more confused because he doesn't see how he deserves it, and first it broke out at his traditional victim, poor hapless Harry. That backfired spectacularly, especially with the vomiting fit which to me indicates extreme despair.
Driven to this last extreme, perhaps he's finally had the moment of clarity and seen who's to blame.
LUCIUS: You will get a summer job.
DRACO: Fine. I'll apply to be Minister of Magic. IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT?
Who knows what will be next?
LUCIUS: You will become accomplished and musical.
DRACO: I have joined a punk band and gotten a tattoo of a snake. Oh no Dad, not on my *arm.* That's so passe.
Or even
LUCIUS: Do not be homophobic and make me look bad.
DRACO: Fine. Kiss me, Harry Potter! ARE YOU HAPPY NOW, DAD?
Ahem.

Of course. If Draco's supposed to apply for work at the Ministry, would any of us expect him to apply for a lesser post than Minister?

I liked Arthur's post for another reason, though. I love that it contains Arthur's mistaking Draco for Lucius and his characterization of a Malfoy's loitering about the Admin desk up to no good as a daily occurrence at the Ministry.

One of the benefits of NA's addition of Arthur and Molly Weasley to the cast is that they've reminded us of the canonical status of the Malfoys. As Lucius and Narcissa have developed in this rpg, and as they've interacted with the students and staff at Hogwarts, we've seen a measurable shift in attitudes about them -- and a measurable change in their behaviour, as well. It's true that we still hear hostility toward them from some quarters, but it is often more a jealous social response than anything else. Now, however, the Weasley parents have come along to remind us that one of the things at play in this community is a high level of automatic, all-encompassing, and undiscerning hatred of all things Malfoy.

(This is not a defense of any of the Malfoys, btw. *makes face at certain lurkers*)

Arthur's just given us a very canonical confirmation that one of the things that PS is up against is an expectation shared by many of Harry Potter's friends that PS must be rotten and unsalvageable. (Remember, for instance, that in the Flourish and Blotts chapter of HPatCoS, Hagrid remarks to the Weasleys and Harry that Malfoys are "rotten ter the core, the whole family, everyone knows that. No Malfoy's worth listenin' ter. Bad blood, that's what it is.")

I really do look forward to seeing how the players move forward in their interactions with PS.

Anonymous @ April 28 2003, 11:27:51 UTC summer job

I just figured this was part of the outcome of the talk with Lucius.
Perhaps Malfoy pere told his son that he needed to get a summer/ part-time job-- you know, teach him responsibility and ground him etc etc.

It's skirting so close to parody for Draco to aply for M.O.M., but (unless he's so insane that he thinks he has a shot) I think this is just another show of defiance, cloaked in obedience. He doesn't want to get a job, so he applies for one that of course he'd never get.
