color me amused

I've been really enjoying this thread. I can just picture Seamus and Draco watching Dean and Harry and discussing their clothing. (No surprise that Draco brings up Pansy in the the end though.)

Ah, yes, I've been loving it too. Both the fact that they are discussing clothing (and especially the way Draco seems to be paying such close attention to what Harry wears) in such detail and that they are being rather nice to each other. I think this bodes well for possible D/H in the furture in that Seamus seems to have accepted Draco as being not so bad after all.

He also pays attention to what Dean wears. Don't get all excited.

Oh, but this is a much more important clue. That he notices Dean too pretty much screams I LOOK AT BOYS!

Given that this is ps, any little bit helps. I mean, there was never any doubt that he watched Harry closely. Remember during the time he was ignoring him? He proceeded to give Harry a play by play of everything he did that week. If he noticed a purple finger, of course he notices green sweaters.

Yes, exactly! And he looks at them pretty closely too, not just casually, but noticing what they would look good dressed in.

I LOOK AT BOYS!

And he "isn't losing any sleep" over Pansy's camisole. *dies* So much for deploying his "shapely girlfriend" into the argument.

And now he and Seamus are going to get together to page through the American WQ. It's so nice that he's relaxing and making new friends. Seamus, in particular, should be a wise head and a good influence.

DEAR GOD I HAD MISSED THOSE LAST TWO POSTS!!!

This is the kind of development I could never have forseen. Please let them get together in Gryffindor. The idea of basically any Gryffindor coming in and finding the two of them together just cracks me up. Especially because you know Harry would insist on joining them because he'd be instinctively jealous despite trusting Seamus and then they'd probably talk him into going shopping.

And I'm holding out hope that they do end up doing each other's hair no matter what they say. They could have a slumber party!

Heheh. It translates to "They're all straight except for Harry and I'm trying to hook the two of you up".

That comment means so much more to me now that I understand what a camisole is. My lack of fashion knowledge has come back to haunt me. It is therefore fortunate that you people who understand these things (by which I mean females and a select assortment of males) are here to help catch what slips past.

And I feel that I should take offense at this, yet somehow I do not. hmmm... Oh well. Nevermind me then. :p

I was watching MTV2 at 4 in the morning, because I'm home, and we have cable here, so I might as well make the most of it, and Marilyn Manson said the following (apparently they do Making the Video on MTV2, which is a crime):

"Men appreciating the beauty of other men doesn't make them gay. It makes them Austrian." (it's possible he said Australian, too.)

Words of wisdom we should remember. potterstinks isn't gay, he's Austrian. Which explains a lot of things. I'm not sure what things they are yet though.

LOL. I love that boy SO MUCH. (and, of course, his player. Just a little, though. It's not like the player has ANY effect on the character she's playing, after all *winks* ^_^).

takeonelook @ May 19 2003, 16:54:52 UTC

Of course Draco had to go and ruin it by bringing up Pansy. Complete with the 'i have a shapely girlfriend' icon. He probably realized he sounded poncy and so it's Pansy to the rescue!

I guess I can't expect too much. With the pictures and the absence of 'hating Harry Potter' in his profile, at least we're getting somewhere, albeit slowly. Baby steps Draco, baby steps...

Oh and did anyone notice that PS added the Astronomy Project entries to his 'Why Potter should not have lived' memories?
PS: That's right, Potter should not have lived! Because he challenges my beliefs and makes me doubt my sexuality. That bloody prat!

(parent)

tabiji @ May 19 2003, 19:17:01 UTC

Baby steps to us, but for Draco this is pretty huge! I'm loving that he's having a civil conversation with Seamus (who is both gay and a Gryffindor)!

It looks like Draco may be trying to find other ways to get to have reasons/excuses to hang around with Harry and his friends!

(parent)

takeonelook @ May 19 2003, 20:27:20 UTC

Yeah good point. For Draco this is a huge step. Yesterday when I saw that he'd removed 'hating Harry Potter' and that he was drawing Harry pictures I just about died. I just couldn't believe he'd actually go that far. And then when I saw the Pansy icon I got all dissapointed again, but really that was just me overreacting. I can't expect a complete 180. In fact, one of the best things about NA is that it's so realistic. It shows the evolution of the characters, and really, it takes a lot for a person to change.

About Seamus and Draco. I love how Seamus is handling the conversation. He's the one that brings up Harry, almost as if baiting Malfoy. Then when Malfoy takes the bait he replies cooly and continues the conversation about Harry. He doesn't keep pointing out how much Malfoy notices Harry, or teases him about knowing so much about fashion like Ron or someone else proabably would. Seamus realizes that that's exactly what he should not do, because that's what puts Malfoy on the defensive. Even so Draco seems to catch himself and quickly reasserts his heterosexuality by talking about witches/Pansy. Seamus again takes it all in stride and then asks Draco to go hang out and look at fashion magazines with him. Brilliant. Seamus is so sly. He's subtly bringing Malfoy closer to Gryffindor and by extention Harry. And you know how gay guys have gaydar? Maybe Draco makes Seamus' gaydar go off. So he thinks Harry has a chance and decides to help him out.

And I also agree with you on Draco. The fact that he's being so civil to Seamus (and Ron the other day), and that he accepts the invitation, shows a definite willingness on Draco's part to get along better with the Gryffindors. Something that I think stems from his liking of Harry.

(parent)

sistermagpie @ May 19 2003, 21:04:23 UTC

I think Seamus came close to accusing Draco of being gay in the outing thread but Lupin stepped in.

You know, I wasn't bothered at all by the Pansy icon. I don't think it really represented much of a step back for Draco. He uses it in reponse to the post of Seamus that begins (regarding Harry getting a tailor), "You never know with Harry. He just might if he decides he wants to look good for some reason." That's as close as anybody comes in this conversation to bringing up Harry looking good FOR Draco as opposed to just Harry as a fashion victim in general. Draco must know what Seamus means with that line--it's not like Harry's crush is a secret to him. He's not ready to pick up on that line of thought so Seamus leaves it at that and moves on. (I wonder if Seamus has spoken to Harry about this at all, because he noted in his own journal that Harry and Malfoy seemed chummy and this was bizarre but didn't pass judgement. If he wasn't quite sure that Harry wouldn't be pained by seeing Draco I can't imagine Seamus inviting him to hang out.)

Anyway, so then Draco responds with the Pansy icon--But what is he saying about Pansy? He's using the camisole to say how it isn't fair that witches can carry off fashion trends that wizards can't. Ummmm...I think we're still safely in gay man's territory here! Really, he sounds happier to talk about Pansy here than usual, I think. He knows what magazines she likes. He knows they featured something she bought from Italy. So why shouldn't he use her icon, really? For the past few responses he was switching between smiling (wit) and his "I am perfect" icon. The Pansy one makes for a change, but it's still something neutral and non-snotty. I thought it was kind of cute: "I am talking about Pansy now, so I will use my Pansy icon! Pansy is my friend!" But he's really not shoving her in Seamus' face as MY GIRLFRIEND PANSY. Then he goes BACK to his "perfect" icon when he accepts the invitation to have a slumber party look at magazines. If he was trying to assert his heterosexuality surely this would be the time!

I'm dying to see the post from some random Gryff like Ron or Dean where he says he walked into the common room and found Draco there with Seamus or Seamus and Harry (or Seamus, Harry and Dean) doing weird stuff with magazines and clothing.

(parent)

black_dog @ May 20 2003, 01:18:31 UTC

Agree with you that he completely fails to use Pansy to shove his heterosexuality in Seamus' face. But actually, I thought his camisole remark was extremely funny because of the way he inadvertantly seemed to reveal, in spite of himself, that he feels no sexual attraction for Pansy whatsoever. Here's his alleged girlfriend in a sexy state of undress, and he dismisses it as something he's "not losing any sleep over."

I'm amusing myself with the notion that he may have been deploying the Pansy icon defensively, after all, but that his sexual tastes are so ambiguous that it doesn't occur to him Pansy wearing the camisole is meant to be sexy -- he's more eager to distance himself from his personal fascination with it as a fashion item. I think Seamus may pick up on this in his wonderful tease, "Now, now, no good comes of envying the ladies their latitude."

Anyway, that's my over-the-top speculation for the night.

*Imagines Draco admiring himself in sexy nightie.*

notapipe @ May 19 2003, 21:53:07 UTC

Personally, I think he just throws Potter related stuff into his "why potter should not have lived". Even if he posted an entry "I love Harry. He also gives the greatest head." (that weren't a hack (though I can see M.B. doing this)) he'd put it there.

Hahaha.

I love PS! He can be infuriating, but god, it's just impossible not to love him.

CULOTTES AND A SKORT <333

notapipe @ May 19 2003, 22:05:08 UTC Do not confuse culottes with gauchos

After missing important information with the camisole, I decided I should find out the difference between culottes and a skort. Thanks to an explanitory article in the esteemed Washington Post (and Google), I know it.

A skort has sizzle. Culottes do not.

I have on occasion flaunted a skort, but never ever culottes. So nice to have my questionable fashion sense verified. "Sizzle," indeed.
