(no title)
Mood: weird

Is anyone else wondering what the heck this is all about?
What have they been talking about? What place is just outside of Hogsmeade? And why would taking the bike not be very practical?

What are they getting? A puppy, a baby, something else along those lines?

What?

Maybe they are teaching Harry to be an animagus :P
Would make sense what with his new, er, motherfigure being a werewolf and all...

My first thought was that they are adopting a child. But didn't they promise Harry that wasn't in the works?

untiemybinds @ May 29 2003, 19:53:15 UTC

Yeah, they did. But who knows, maybe they talked it over. I guess we'll just have to wait and find out.

That's the thing with this NA deal...

I like the fact that Remus's icon is an owl. I don't think he's recovered from Arthur's visit yet.

untiemybinds @ May 29 2003, 19:51:55 UTC

*bows* Oh, Godly-One.

I doubt anyone could recover from Arhtur that quickly. That man is a walking disaster. Hilarious, but a complete disaster.

Hmm.. didn't Arthur get them both twin (sister/brother) owls for a wedding gift? I swore I read that.

Anonymous @ May 30 2003, 05:47:56 UTC

Yes, Arthur did get them owls, and they were named something ridiculous so Remus said he was going to use a renaming spell/charm on them.

I'm leaning toward it being a baby. Then again, those sneaky NA players may just want us to think it's a baby.

Yes, Harry flipped out when they talked about a baby on Veritaserum night, but I bet that was just a knee-jerk reaction of his abandonment fears from seeing Sirius' list of conquests, and then being afraid that he would be replaced or unwanted in the newlyweds lives. He was feeling insecure and afraid that the happy family he finally had could crumble apart.

Since then, Remus and Sirius have been absolutely clear in reassuring Harry that he has them for the long haul. Harry is not someone that would demand all of Sirius and Remus' attention, and I'm sure he really would love to have a baby around.

I think the key here with whatever it is that they're planning they have made a point of giving Harry a voice in the matter, and are approaching this decision as a family. ("I'm glad you're all right with the idea. If you want to come with us when we go, let me know - I'd love your input since, you know, this is going to affect all three of us!")

I don't think it's going to be a baby. Remember there is still a war going on and Sirius and Remus may be called away and placed in danger at anytime. One thing that people don't do in uncertain times is have children; they have no desire to raise a family when there is a chance that one or both parents might die. (Rowling has even said that Harry's class and the classes that come before his are smaller.)

Both Sirius and Remus are very aware of this. Look at Harry. Because of his parents' deaths, he was raised by unloving relatives. These two men have no desire to put a child in a situation where he or she would be raised without one or both of them.

The problems I would have with it being a baby is that 1) a baby=jumping the shark in TV terms. That might not apply to RPGs but I see all the same problems coming up. They just got married five minutes ago. I think they're more interesting in themselves. 2) Even in the WW it seems hard to believe you get a baby just by having a discussion and then going to Hogsmeade after classes on Friday. Would they be going to the Baby Store to pick one up?;-)

We might be wrong in even thinking they're getting something meaning an object. They might be having something done. Someone suggested adopting Harry and that's the type of thing I mean--although I don't think they would ever do that because Harry would never want to be Harry Anything-But-Potter.

In case it isn't clear, I have no clue what they're doing.

That's true. The remark about the bike not being practical could just mean that it's impractical for all three of them to take the bike, and not that they're bringing anything back. Then again, that would apply if they were starting some sort of adoption process too. Hmmmm...maybe they're getting family-themed tattoos?!

(parent)

Anonymous @ May 29 2003, 22:05:17 UTC

Perhaps it's the snitch tattoo that Remus said he would let Harry have on his hip because James had? That was worded weird but whatever.

(parent)

sistermagpie @ May 30 2003, 07:07:23 UTC

I had thought of a tattoo as well--perhaps in a place that would make it uncomfortable to ride a motorcycle right after.:-)

I'm hoping its a puppy.

They should get a snake.

There's a pet that Harry could bond with! Hmm.

(parent)

catiadoodle @ May 30 2003, 04:49:43 UTC

Mmmmh... I have no idea what it is, but I don't think it's a baby, because Harry asked "can I help pick?", and you don't go to "pick" a baby like an object in a store or something...
Could be a pet, though.

Adoption.

(parent)

Anonymous @ May 30 2003, 05:49:00 UTC

Still wouldn't... refer to it that way, I don't think. "Pick" tends to make one think of an animal or a... vegetable.

Did I miss this? When did Harry ask that?

I don't recall where Harry said that he'd like to help 'pick', but my first thought was that they were going to Godric's Hollow - Didn't Remus at one point mention it? And the impracticality of the bike would be all three of them on it at once.
