Recruited? What do you think Snape means by that? (The Death Eaters?) Is that directed at any student in particular?

I read it as Death Eaters. Is there another interpretation? The only other interpretation I can think of is he wants to make sure that none of the quidditch players go pro, and I don't think he cares about quidditch that much.

Yes, but I was hoping it was something other than Death Eaters. It's just that... isn't saying "don't join the Death Eaters" just a little bit dangerous for Snape? He's supposed to be undercover, right? Lucius can read these journals.

Even if he WERE a Death Eater, he'd STILL play the whole "redeemed former death eater" role, so it shouldn't be.

Well, yes, I suppose so. Did "recruited" seem out of place to you, though? (Killed or cursed or recruited.) It sort of seems like an afterthought or something like that. It just really stuck out.

I think that's just Snape's way of telling his students to stay safe. He isn't the type to come out and say it , but he does care.

To me it seemed like it was just Snape's snide attempt to warn off some of the Slytherins from the DE path. I'd guess that as head of the house and a former DE himself, he's pretty wary of some of his kids signing up. But I don't think he'll ever make a huge public statement about his feelings. All in all the "don't get recruited" statement seemed pretty Snape to me.
