Crackpot theory time!
Mood: thoughtful

I skimmed over the recent posts to make sure no one's mentioned this, but I haven't checked all the comments yet, so... apologies if this has already been posed.

I don't know about all of you, but I've seen The Parent Trap, that classic child fantasy that there isn't really any reason why one's parents split up - it's just stubbornness on their part. All you need to do is force them together, and they'll work out that they really love each other and everything will be fine.

This is a classic Parent Trap manoeuvre. Harry's faked his own disappearance so Sirius and Remus have to talk to each other. It seems to be working so far...

What do you all think?

I thought about it earlier today. :)

Well, when I first saw it I just figured that's what he was doing.

However, I sort of doubt it will work.

Yeah. Me too. :(

I really, really hope that Remus and Sirius - especially Sirius - work it out, but I'm not really anticipating it.

Heh - that's kinda what I thought, too. I'm kind hoping that he's hiding out at Draco's in the meantime, but... *shrugs* who knows?

Didn't think of that because I've been running back and forth from my computer to my room to pack for New York, but hmm, I like...actually, I've been trying to convince my mum to rent them again...odd, it is.
And yes, it's a nice theory, but I just don't know...Sirius needs to get hisself some help. We still don't know what happened, but whatever he did...well, wasn't good. :/ I have hope, though!

I most emphatically agree. Sirius is behaving a lot like, well, me at my worst. As someone said earlier in the community, rather than actually doing something about it, he's just beating his breast about how he deserves to hurt...and then going over to Lucius.

Ditto.

Well, I don't think the Remus-Sirius troubles are really without any "reason" - their problems are recurring and serious. Harry's little flight might be an attempt to get them back together, but then, it maybe Harry's somehow convinced himself that the breakup is his fault. We all know Harry and the Guilt Complex O'D00M.

I completely agree. Perhaps I wasn't clear... those movies (Parent Trap and the like) suggest that parents split for no good reason other than to be difficult. Hence, the parents always get back together in the end. I think this is a dangerous fantasy for a child whose parents are separated/divorced.

Yeah, poor Harry. I hope all this works out. :(

I doubt Harry'd need to fake his own disappearance when it's just as easy for him to really disappear.

And if his plan is to force Remus and Sirius to talk it looks like it's backfiring pretty solidly at this point. I mean they're talking but all they're really doing is blaming each other for this.

Actually I would be more inclined to think that Harry has taken off for his own personal reasons having less to do with a plan to get R&S back together. I think at this point he's realized that they both fucked up big time, and that's caused him to loose a good deal of faith in them as responsible adults. So to me, it seems much more likely that Harry took off so that he can have a chance to get away from everything and to reevaluate his opinions of people and his relationships with them Harry's been doing a lot of sulking so either he's come up with a plan or the Sirius getting caught thing was the last straw and he decided to get out of the house. Also, it's important to realize that he doesn't really have any adults he can turn to right now since the Weasley's are fighting also. So if Harry felt the need to get out, he wouldn't really be able to go to any of the usual haunts.

In regards to your first point, I didn't necessarily mean that he'd faked his disappearance, merely speculating his reasons behind it.

The rest is all very feasible. It'll be interesting to see how this one pans out...

To be honest, that idea came to my head as I was starting to wake up this morning.
