Mood: woah!

Narcissa has left Cannes and sent Lucius her ring.

Good for her! I hope she works things out. Me, I would have kept the ring and probably pawned it for some obnoxious thing Lucius would disapprove of, but I'm a horrible person like that!

Precious cargo? I think it's Echo. Any other guesses?

Maybe she packed up things that remind her of her son; pictures, trinkets, old toys.

Draco is the number one thing in her life now and Lucius might try to poison him against her, so she takes anything she can get her hands on.

But wouldn't that stuff be at the Manor and not in Cannes? And why not just leave it in Cannes if it is there?

If Draco is the number one thing in her life why is she going to an undisclosed place and telling Lucius to pass on her apologies? She's leaving both him and Lucius. I'm not condemning her for that or anything but it's not an act of self-sacrifice. As Hera says, her needs are important.

I don't think Lucius has to actively try to poison Draco against Narcissa at this point, though I'm sure he's enjoying Draco's choosing him over her. Narcissa made the open move to turn Draco against Lucius and it backfired, driving him in the other direction.

It's kind of interesting that, although she has finally managed to get Draco's attention with her post about returning the ring, she has been kind of icy in response to his comments. I'm trying to figure out how much sense it would make for her to play hard-to-get in this situation, perhaps to draw out a commitment from Draco. And as usual, the question of what her tactics are is separate from the question of whether those tactics are wise.

I thought his replies fit right in with his, "It's YOUR drama, YOU act in it," sentiments. In Draco's last post he specifically said that he would not be drawn into this drama and I think his "why?" is part of that (as in, "Why would I not wish to read anything you had to say?"). He's refusing to accept the part she's giving him in this situation so keeps correcting her on it. She CAN talk to him, he's right there. He's just not leaving home. I think it's all part of the same power struggle.

It's classy, stylish, symbolic, very upper class, very Malfoy.
I'm a starving student. AS IF I'd give that thing back!!!

Well, married life seems to be over for the Malfoys. But considering past events, is anyone really surprised?

Where is she going to live now? What is she going to do for money? What will her son think?

Her apology to Draco was heart-wrenching but it shows Narcissa's growth. In the past she would never have entertained any thought resembling that.

I wonder what she sent Remus. I first thought that maybe it was Echo but she's a little too big to be shipped the wizarding way.

Is it some unknown to me ritual between NA? Like a codex or something?

NANIIIIIIIIIIIII?!?!?!?! (Translation: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?!?!)

She--She actually...

...oh, SHIT! I know that she's probably doin' the right thing and all, but...how the hell is DRACO gonna deal with this?!? What kind of effect would this have on the unborn kid?!

(parent)

Anonymous @ August 26 2003, 06:39:14 UTC

What unborn kid? I thought it was pretty clear she had had insolinomininina or whatever it was and wasn't pregnant? Or did I miss something? -_-

Hmmmmmmm...... I thought that she had a miscarriage

She had unusual appetites last month--she actually wanted funnel cakes!--and she also got a baby spoon from one of her associates; I think it was her fave author.

Just to ratchet up the paranoia level -- there was a nice clean cover story that she had insulinoma, which seemed pretty straightforward at the time. But do we have any reason to doubt it? I found it interesting that on this recent thread, she still felt herself unable to have a drink "because of the recovery from my surgery." I suppose the surgery may have impaired her ability to process alcohol. Does anyone know enough to speak to that question?

I am not at all wedded to this skeptical take on things. I am simply making trouble.

I don't know if it would matter, as it's been a little while since her surgery, but alcohol thins the blood, so maybe it's something to do with that.
She might just be trying to cut down, of course, but is too embarrassed to let people know that she thinks she's been drinking too much.

Narcissa merely cannot handle her alcohol, no more and no less.

Echo is shedding all over Severus' robes and now even I'm starting to ship Snape/Lupin. O_O

As am I. I feel rather fickle, but Sirius/Remus appears to be so very over.

I don't see how they can come back from this (not including Snape). They just sound so final and, more than that, like they don't want to be anything but final. ;_;

Would anyone like to theorize about the way Lucius is reacting? I mean I assume he's a bit of a manipulative bastard, but as I don't know him very well yet, maybe a little insight from people who have been around a bit longer than me would help. Does he really love Narcissa? How much? Is he really upset about her leaving? Does he want to work things out, as suggested in a couple of threads I am too tired to find the links for? Is he as shocked as some of us are? Is he as evil as Narcissa seems to think he is? Any other thoughts? What's going on in his mind, you think?
