Camping Trip - Numbers?
Mood: confused

I know there's already a thread on this, but that's mostly dedicated to being amused at the April Fool's joke, so I thought I'd post this as a new topic instead.

On the camping trip -- if they're insisting on four people of the same gender and house in each tent, the numbers don't add up, do they?

For example, there are five Gryffindor seventh year boys, and if the Gryffindor sixth year boys have five, that will leave two people out, or if they have four, one. I imagine the numbers are the same for the other houses (and the girls). There's going to have to be SOME overlap.

Unless they have magically expanding tents, which is obviously a possibility. But then why would Professor McGonagall ask for groups of four?

I don't know. I'm just confused. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I actually thought the same thing when I read the post, but alas, I have no answers to contribute. (*shrugs*) Just wanted you to know you weren't alone in your confusion.

I think maybe four was a convenient number and it wasn't really thought about, except that of course the other rule means Draco can't share a tent with M.B. and neither can Terry and Dean and Seamus.

But I think the four was just an arbitrary number chosen for its even-numberness and thought wasn't really given to the actual number of people in the houses. Or else the extras will get a tent to themselves (or with a staffperson!)

Looks like Seamus finds it arbitrary as well.

Woo! Perhaps a solid answer will come of his post. Much love to Seamus (and his player.)

Since we know there are 5 people of each gender in each house per year, maybe this is an intentional thing so we don't figure out where Zabini will go?
