ATTENTION: T-Shirts
Mood: giddy

We on the wibble chat have come up with an idea. A brilliant idea, you might say. Nay, not brilliant. An idea that will bring peace on earth. Oh yes. Oh yes.

T-shirts.

Nocturne_Alley themed t-shirts.

There have been loads of ideas on the chat so far, I dunno if I can post them all here, but anyway, the idea is this.

Cafe Press is known for selling merchandise. I do not claim to be an expert of cafepress; I'm working on skimming the FAQ right now. But from what I understand, you send it a graphic and make it available as a merchandise option (say, as a logo on a t-shirt), and someone buys it, and cafepress makes it.

daisy_drabbles volunteered to make the graphics to put on the shirt.

So, erm, I think the thing I'm posting is, like, how many people would be interested in buying a T-shirt? What ideas do you have for a T-shirt logo?

"I survived N_A"
"I survived August/April/June"
The (sorry, Harry) line.
Gladrags (on on on on on on on)
"Fine."
Defining quotes on the shirt's front, list of n_a's members on the back.
Goyle's post (translation free) on the front.

And these are the ones I am looking at right now and can remember.

I'm sure this post will be edited greatly. PLEASE PLEASE SHARE IDEAS!! T-SHIRTS!!

And if we do make money, what do we do with it? Like, on cafepress you can not make money if you stick with the default price. Or you can make money by pricing it a wee bit higher. And if we decided to make money like that, let's say, do we give it to n_a? charity? chocolate? something else? I'm just throwing out ideas.

Hopefully someone more competent (sp??) and with a better grasp of this will volunteer to help out alot a lot!

ETA: P.S!!!!! N_A Players!!! Realizing this has been done without the permission of N_A players, I formally request, er, said permission. That's really awkward phrasing. Sorry about that.

ETA 2: T-shirt ideas will eventually be collected and put to a deciding vote, I think would be best.

ETA 3: Sorry if my sentence structure seems long and rambly and awakward, but this happens when I get excited and forget English is my best language.

ETA 4: Also, I just wanted to point out for random's sake that there are
lots of merchandise options, not just shirts; including a thong. @_@

How about some t-shirts based on Goyle's insult-a-slug day? I know I, for one, would gladly walk around wearing a shirt that said "Yu hav the werst tayste in frends" or "Yor cat needs to be brushed wons ina wile". Or even "Everywun hayts yu cuz yor depresing and ded!!" [-o

That is a brilliant idea, and I second it!

What about a Shiny one? Or something about Hufflepuff paranoia, which is one of my favorite parts of NA.

I would totally buy these shirts. ALL of them. I already want them.

jacay @ June 25 2004, 23:31:23 UTC

Ahahaha, just remembered. Something based on Millicent's and Draco's badges? We could use their drawings on the t-shirts!!! *excited*

In your fish, motherfucker! would be an awesome shirt, although I suppose some people would object to the language.

I love the "in your fish, mofo" idea <333 It is a very good plan :)

It's okay with me, but let me check with someone who knows about the legalities involved with using HP stuff for cafepress first so you guys don't get in trouble. It doesn't look like you're using images from HP or even the name Harry Potter but I'd rather check and make sure.

(parent)

fevvy @ June 25 2004, 23:47:37 UTC

on wibblechat positive reception to a mood: enraged shirt.

(parent)

intern_alley @ June 25 2004, 23:48:52 UTC

Oh, and a couple other things:

Don't raise the price, we don't want any money or chocolate and I don't think that the profit would even be very notable (probably $10 or so, as I think you only wind up getting a handful of change for each purchase? I'm not sure), so I think it would be best to leave it at normal price, as cafepress is a bit pricey as it is.

And I'm okay with it as long as it's not pimped anywhere but nraged. Which I realise sounds a bit weird but I know that people do get a lot of slack for cafepress shops so to be honest I'd rather not see this all over a bunch of different LJs. I'm totally fine with you guys doing it but if it receives any sort of slack, it will be my head it comes down on, so I'm just more comfortable with that. I hope that doesn't sound bitchy!

Otherwise, go to town and I'll let you know what I've heard back about copyright issues. I know some people have hidden/taken down cafepress shops because of them, so you might want to hold off on making it until I can tell you if you're going to get in any trouble for it.

I've had a cafepress store for a long time. As long as you're not selling copyrighted images, not using trademarked names, and not illegally reselling the image of a celebrity, pretty much anything goes.

So, you couldn't use Userpics, but portions of the handwritten notes would be okay. You could use language from posts (It'd be best to get the poster's permission). There could be references to "Shiny" but not to "Lucius Malfoy." But "Looshie" would be legal.

Not that I'm rooting for a "Shiny Like Looshie" shirt or anything *eg*
Fanart could be reproduced with the permisson of the artist, so long as the art wasn't instantly identifiable as Radcliffe, Thewlis, Isaacs, etc, and probably if it didn't have the name of the character as Rowling uses it -- but usernames 'Purestblood' etc. would be legal.

That's what I was wondering about, mostly. I know there was someone who set something up for cafepress where everything on it was only fanart and had no names, and there was hullabaloo over it.

Yes, this is a good point. I'm okaying it in general, but if you want to reproduce the drawings or handwritten notes what have you I would suggest emailing the individual player who made it. I don't think anyone would be against it, but I can't really speak for everyone so that might be a good idea. Emails are usually in the characters' contact info, or you can ask me and I should be able to get an address for you.

This is not legal advice, but...

I've spoken with WB in the past about FictionAlley's CP shop (http://www.cafeshops.com/cp/store.aspx?s=fashoppe or http://www.cafeshops.com/cp/browse/?cbCafepress=on&nr=1&N=4294909818&emailtype=1&sendmail=true&Ntk=Stores&y=0&txtEmail=email+address&Nao=1&x=0) and their feeling is that images from the films, or the books for that matter, are a no-no, as are names of canon characters, or canon terms, either on the product or in the description. They won't harrass shops that only use "original" terms, like FictionAlley has with shipper gear.

Also, don't use Gladrags, as it's a canon-term too.

mood: enraged (whoever suggested that first) or just a big 'ole list of all they player's lj names.

(parent)

snackbreak @ June 26 2004, 01:21:31 UTC

I think all of those sound pretty good, especially if whoever says the quote's username is on the shirt as well, front or back, and I really like the idea of having the list of usernames on the back of most of the shirts too, just because some of the quotes might not stand alone as easily, and I just like having the list of names. Um, anyway, I want to buy one... or many. :) :) :)

It sounds like an AWESOME idea, but I just have to interject that I've heard a lot of less than complimentary things about the quality of Cafe Press shirts. But I would totally buy something anyway. ;)

I WANT SHIRTS YAY.

That's all I really have to contribute on the subject, though. (*grin*)

akutenshi2007 @ June 26 2004, 04:17:49 UTC Cafepress Info and stuff

Ok, I was just talking to daisy_drabbles on aim and this is what I have to say about Cafe Press.

-Its severely easy to figure out, you make a graphic, upload it and decide what to put it on.
-In a free shop (one where you don't have to pay to maintain it) you can only put graphics on one type of merchandise at once. For example if you have a thong design you can't have more than one.

I think that it would be easier if per design we had one shop a piece. Like a whole shop full of merchandise with one design on everything. That way there'd by a choice of what you want on what piece of merchandise. This might bring up the problem of maintainers of the shops. We'd have to have a different person in charge of each one because one person can't have multiple shops without paying a fee, I believe. If you want, I volunteer to maintain one shop.

Also, the quality of the merchandise is fine. I've got baseball t-shirts off there that've lasted for about 2 years now. I've also ordered notebooks which came out really good too.

I like! I would be willing to work on the designs.

And I think something like a general RIP shirt might be nice, with fanart (I'm thinking in outline or something subtlish like that) of all the fallen.

Also something from the Millicent v. Draco art war.

Oh great! I think you should talk to daisy_drabbles (who also volunteered to do it) about designs then.
