Funerals. Ack
Today should be Lisa's funeral. Actually, Friday should have been, but today is the more likely day. I'm sure her parents have already collected her.

It's so odd to read other RPGs and they're planning summer activities, and then to read this and know...

Ack.

kenboy @ June 27 2004, 15:14:29 UTC Well...

Looks to me as if Lisa is going to be part of the wake, which while non-traditional, I think is really sweet, and in this case, completely appropriate.

(Those wondering what we're talking about: the Jewish tradition is to hold the funeral as close to the death as possible, preferably the next day; it's not unheard of for the ultra-orthodox to be buried the same say as they die. I think this tradition is becoming less common, though, as families become larger, more far-flung, and in many cases, less religious. Also: we don't have wakes. Also, I'm about as lapsed a Jew as possible, and am practically Catholic by now, so it may well be the case that some of us now do have wakes, but no one bothered to tell me.)

In this case, also, I don't know how observant Lisa's family is.

Entirely separately, I think the fact that Narcissa and Draco are attending the wake is utterly sweet, and heartbreaking, the way she asked "if it would not be too awkward." Somehow, that really made me tear up.

Oh good, I'm not the only one who teared up at Narcissa's response. Waaah!

I don't know anything about Jewish tradition myself, and I'm a... uh... non-practicing Catholic, I guess people call it.

yeah, Narcissa's response broke my heart.

I think the idea of having a wake for everyone who died is a really sweet idea. I really hope it goes well

yeah, I'm a bit scared of the reaction Draco and Narcissa as well as Harry will recieve.

I guess I'm also a little morbidly curious about other people like Hannah, who's admitted to still having feelings towards Ernie, who is still with Hermione. I don't think Hannah is the type of person who would let anything come of that under normal circumstances but the stress of almost having lost someone you care about deeply combined with the emotions that will be running high during the wake would be difficult for anyone to deal with.

This is why I thought the funeral would be *today* as opposed to Friday.

I do think it's sweet she was included in the wake, but that doesn't preclude saying that she was buried on a day appropriate to her background, does it? Not that most of the people at Hogwarts would be in a condition to notice - this I admit.

Sunday is the most common day for Jewish funerals - pretty everyone who passes away from Thursday to Saturday gets buried on Sunday for one reason or another - and as I assume Lisa is not religious, this would be the day her family would probably choose.

It makes me want to see the conversation where Draco and Narcissa talked about it. I wonder if Draco is still monosyllabic. I'm glad he wants to go, and that they asked.

I woke up this morning imagining Draco and MB planing pansies all around the tree Pansy planted for the Weasleys.:-(

On a brighter note, Seamus planning a wake seems like a nice pun on Finnigan's Wake. Only not. Oh, you know...

*walks off humming "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"*

NA has clearly caused me to crack up.

OMG, that's so funny. I hadn't thought of that at all. I thought Irish Wake but not Finnigan's. Excellent.

HAHAHA.

BRILLIANT.

This is the second time I have laughed inappropriately. (Still laughing at the thought of PS' Poke...)

That's really funny!

Though this idea of a wake keeps making me think of the wake in Sandman, which in turn makes me think of the Neil Gaiman references the Remus's player used to seek into his posts, which then makes me wibbly.
