Seeking advice!

Okay, so I've been thinking about the player Q&As you guys were talking about when NA ended, and I think everyone agreed that they should be on nraged rather than in a chat. But I'm not really sure what format to do them in. I think one giant post would get sort of silly--especially because no one would be getting email comment alerts, so it would be hard to keep up.

Michael Corner: I've been thinking about the Q&A thing nraged asked us to do. I want to do it but I'm not sure how to do it. I mean there could be a post from a_player, but it can't be one post for everyone or all the questions will be split up unfairly.
Bellatrix Lestrange: How about we all register a new LJ as the player of character?
Michael Corner: But I don't want to make like one post for every character, that is a bit much spam.
Bellatrix Lestrange: I mean it is free.
Michael Corner: Yes, that will not be asking much at all.
Bellatrix Lestrange: Well we just need to register one!
Michael Corner: But why?
Bellatrix Lestrange: So we can do it like we did the character Q&As.
Michael Corner: But can't we do that from the a_player LJ? I mean, we can make different posts, and if the question is "Ron's player, blah blah blah", and a_player answers it is obviously Ron's player.
Bellatrix Lestrange: Yeah but do you really want to wade through a 56 page thread to look for things to answer?
Michael Corner: Well that is why I said there could be separate posts! Like maybe a Weasleys one.
Bellatrix Lestrange: How do we decide though?
Michael Corner: I guess H&D confined to a post together.
Michael Corner: Maybe like H&D, Remus and Sirius, Weasleys, etc.
Bellatrix Lestrange: Malfoys. Teachers.
Michael Corner: Or we could just do one for each character. But at some point it's going to get ridiculous. With like "Ask me anything!" for Myrtle.
Bellatrix Lestrange: We could do it weekly or fortnightly?
Michael Corner: Actually I was thinking it might be good to do it on the 31st.
Bellatrix Lestrange: Like a bunch of 5 characters each batch?
Michael Corner: That is when N.E.W.T. retakes are.
Michael Corner: Maybe I can just post to nraged asking how they'd like us to do it.
Bellatrix Lestrange: Yeah.
Michael Corner: I shall just post our log.
Bellatrix Lestrange: :))
Michael Corner: I will make us characters who are not in the game. Nott and someone else. Who do you want to be?
Bellatrix Lestrange: Nott is sort of in the game.
Michael Corner: Tonks?
Bellatrix Lestrange: :-?
Bellatrix Lestrange: What a stressful and important decision.
Michael Corner: I like that we're debating over the decision for - yes.
Bellatrix Lestrange: :))
Michael Corner: We can't even decide about this.
Michael Corner: How are we supposed to decide on Q&A?
Bellatrix Lestrange: *rolls*

Suggestions? Ideas? Thoughts? Preferences?

EtA: Um, something unfixable has come up, so we're not going to be able to do this today. Sorry, guys, I wanted to do it today as well.

I liked the idea about bunching the characters together, like the examples of the Weasley's doing it all together, and Harry and Draco again.

clouditall @ July 29 2004, 18:23:51 UTC

agreed.

intern_alley @ July 29 2004, 18:28:47 UTC

The only thing with that is the concern that the a_player would get confusing over and over, and no way to really differentiate whose player is whose. I mean, there is signing, but people do forget to do it.

(parent)

steph_hime @ July 29 2004, 18:30:49 UTC

Couldn't they use the character journal's? Just for the Q&A? It would make things a lot less confusing, and that way no more journal's would have to be created.

(parent)

intern_alley @ July 29 2004, 18:33:50 UTC

No, these are not going to be as the characters. They are going to be as the players. The character journals aren't going to be used ever again.

The other problem is that I don't know that every player wants to do it, and saying "Weasleys" for instance would have people asking stuff of a Weasley who might not want to do it.

steph_hime @ July 29 2004, 18:35:40 UTC

Right, I get that.

Hello! Maybe the character name of the player could be written in the subject line? It could be a good compromise, since you can use the a_player journal while still being able to tell who is answering without opening any threads. :)

(parent)

intern_alley @ July 29 2004, 18:52:29 UTC

That is a good idea, although I'm still not sure what to do in regards to players who may not want to/have time to do it.

(parent)

morganmuffle @ July 29 2004, 19:04:50 UTC

Well if you ask them all beforehand you could post a list of players who are willing to take part so we know who we can ask questions of. Would that work?

(parent)

intern_alley @ July 29 2004, 19:08:34 UTC

I don't know if I could get a hold of everyone, honestly, is the problem. The one-post-per-character sort of appeals to me because then whoever wants to do it can just make the post, but then, spammy. Eh, eh, eh.

(parent)

morganmuffle @ July 29 2004, 19:12:21 UTC

Fair enough. One post per character should work, I wouldn't worry about being spammy, nrageders seem to be quite good at that :)

(parent)

lilychick @ July 29 2004, 19:13:37 UTC

Just my opinion, but I don't think it's that spammy, considering that the community isn't quite high-traffic otherwise. (*grin*)

People with busier flists may disagree with me, naturally.

tabiji @ July 29 2004, 19:22:15 UTC

Bring on the spam! Nraged has had so few posts in the past month, I don't think many would mind. Especially for something like THIS! WE MISS YOU!

Since we have advance notice, anyone that has spam concerns can just take nraged off their watch list day!

(parent)

kievstar @ July 29 2004, 21:08:27 UTC

IT WILL BE THE BEST WAY OF SPAMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO IT!!!!!!

(parent)

airaloki @ July 29 2004, 21:43:33 UTC

I think that in this case, people won't mind if it is slightly spammy.

this kind of transcendes spammy. *nods*

Spam me! It would be a pleasure :)

Bring on the spam!

*squee!!!*

(parent)

susan_voight @ July 30 2004, 12:32:36 UTC

Not spammy! And far the easier way for later reference. Some of these are going to be enormous collapsed posts anyway, but one post per is far the simplest, I think.

Other suggestion: players who post might say "questions about X are off-limits", should there be any such things (besides identities).

(parent)

intern_alley @ August 10 2004, 01:01:40 UTC

What I was thinking was just a standard sort of "I might not answer everything" in the post, because speaking for myself, I don't know what people will ask and what there is that I wouldn't be able to answer until I see the question. Er, if that made any sense.

(parent)

susan_voight @ August 11 2004, 00:34:39 UTC

It does make sense, but there might be general categories: no talk about how plots were developed, or 'ships, or something.

But things seem to be going swimmingly so far!

*goes off to read the 30-odd comments that have accumulated since I left work*

Hm, maybe you could make up a list of players that are willing to answer questions so only they are asked? Or, if that is too difficult, just leave some questions unanswered (but I understand that some players may feel obliged to answer if the question is there even if they do not have the time)? I don't really know, am just throwing out ideas?

Thank you for doing this, in any case. *loves*!!

:/ I didn't read carefully enough, whoops, just disregard my comment!

I think thats a good idea! How many minimum would a_player need though? How many characters are in the game?

Fred and George had separate players, though, and Arthur, Molly, and Charlie probably had separate ones, too--so that takes the count up.

This is probably what we're going to do. I don't think we'll have to worry about 50 not being enough, because obviously characters like the Fat Lady and Peeves don't really need to do a Q&A, and with people who may not want to do it, I imagine there will only be about 35 at most.

Um....we're working on when to do it now, probably ASAP. I just have to make sure that's cool with everyone else. And now we are screwing around with icons.

SPam spam spam...this isn't spam, this is stuff we want to read, and there's no NA anymore, so my flist volume is way down! Go for it, we want to read!

My flist is completely insane and takes me forever to read as it is, but honestly, for this, I couldn't care less about it being spammy. Really, please, spam me with NAplayer goodness. Please?
