"Your flying skills are not too bad, but you tend to concentrate too much with the techniques, you have to go with the flow and be one with the broom, definitely have the potential though!"

Aww, he gave her a compliment.

It's comments like this that remind me that though Ron can be an ass most of the time, he's still an inherently good person and, dare I say it, friend.

Anonymous @ April 22 2003, 12:25:59 UTC He is ...

... a good friend. He just tends to overreact every so often, but his heart is in the right place. And his intentions are good. He's just a tad, er, volatile. :)

Awww...Ron is trying. I have to wonder if Remus maybe got through to him a little with whatever he said. (All those paragraphs he had with Ron...)

Anybody else think Ron got a little of his mother's personality there? Notice how she's not speaking to Hermione, presumably because of Viktor suggesting she go to Bulgaria.

Maybe I'm being uncharitable, but just because Ron obsesses about Quidditch doesn't mean he's not an ass and mean and a blight on the human race. I'll wait until he doesn't act like a jerk when there's something that doesn't involve Quidditch.

In defense of Ron! I feel absolutely terrible for him. Nothing ever, ever goes his way, and after a while of walking in those shoes, I'd be grumpy and need anger management, too. It's obvious Hermione still likes him, so I hope the Trio makes up soon. I hate seeing them divided like they are!

And anyway, Potterstinks is MUCH, MUCH worse than Knight_to_h3 will ever be. EVER! It's insane the way anyone even likes Potterstinks. They only like him because they haven't been in his line of fire. I mean, HE'S an ass!

I agree about Ron. I think that after growing up with six siblings, and how many of his things (robes, wand, rat, chess set, to name a few) had belonged to others previously, he would have felt like he never had anything to call his own. So when he's at Hogwarts, away from most of his family, it must feel like he finally can be free of their collective shadow. Thus, he's almost possesive of his friends, because they're something that he thinks are his, and noone else's. Or perhaps, it's the opposite - he wants Hermione and especially Harry to act as though he's their only friend, so that he can, for once, feel special, and feel like an individual and not just 'another Weasley'. So yes, he might react badly on many occasions, and there's a lot he has to learn, which I think there are people around him (Remus, possibly Charlie, to name a couple) who can teach him, if he's willing to learn.

As for Draco, well. Until just recently, I truly, honestly despised him, in canon and NA. And I'll probably be roasted at the spit for saying that here, but I did. I still don't adore him, but I've begun to have a bit of compassion for him; it can't be easy for him with his parents' impending divorce, and Lucius never seemed like the ideal father, but the way he's been acting recently, it's starting to seem that perhaps Draco didn't quite have the ideal childhood. Not to say it was completely horrible, but I think we're beginning to see more layers of Draco come to the surface as he tries to deal with the situation between his parents.

I still think he's annoying, though. *runs*
