Current mood: sympathetic

When stroking a putt it is important to realise you can only hit the putt straight and that it is the green that may cause the ball to turn right or left. This being said, the putter is designed so that you can hit the ball only straight. There is no point in trying to turn the ball using the putter or the stroke.
Therefore, after selecting your target and aligning to it your job is simply to concentrate on bringing the putter straight back and straight through the ball toward your target. As the putter will only hit the ball in one direction, following these steps will ensure that you hit the ball straight toward your target.
Too many people line a putt up and worry about the break in the green and it's upcoming effect on the path of the ball. As a result, they tend to push or pull the ball to compensate for the undulations in the green. Trust yourself to have read the green properly and just hit a straight putt at the target you have selected. You might be surprised how often you were correct.

It is considered bad form to begin playing the hole immediatedly upon
arrival at the course. The experienced player will normally take time
to admire the entire course, with special attention to well-formed
bunkers.
