Here's something about getting old: the school term begins and you get started in your routine, you make a couple of pizzas with your godson and you teach and you give baths to the deserving unclean, and then you blink and it's time for Easter. Yes, Moony, I'll be there and I'll bring Harry as well. I think. Harry, any thoughts on this?

All this talk of parties is making me nostalgic for the times when the school year didn't fly by quite this quickly, when there was more time to stop and just relax. Or go to parties. I'm not thinking of one party in particular, because they're starting to run together now, after all these years--I mean, was the one where we sneaked off early to be with Moony the same one where Brenda Jorkins tried to kiss James? I don't remember any more.

I suppose the point of this post, besides just sticking my wand in at Dumbledore's request, is that I am looking forward to spending a quiet Easter with my family--and whoever would have thought I'd be seriously using those words one day? Even at seventeen I couldn't have imagined it, even at thirty-three, and now here I am, ready to start packing tonight.

Growing old is really not so bad, now I come to think on it. At least, not all the time it isn't.

Goodness, Padfoot, you are ever so ancient.

Tell me, when the dinosaurs died out, where you sad?

jadedsirius @ 2004-03-28 07:50 pm UTC

Oh, you have room to talk, you gray-haired old man.

I beg your pardon. My grey makes me look dignified.

You, on the other hand, use an awful lot of Sleekeazy's Colouring Potions. I ought to look into buying stock in the company, the older you get.

Methuselah.

Moony, I may have cut my hair short, but I am still far too fond of it ever to risk Sleekeazy's potions on it. You may rest assured that my colour is still due entirely to nature.

I am giving you my strongest, sternest glare. Too bad you aren't here to appreciate it.

Nature, my furry grey arse. Even James was turning grey by seventh year. Though, he blamed you and Lily for it.

I'm not that far away, you know. I'm still in the shop. If you wanted to glare at me in person, or something.

Grrr, I can't get away, I still have about fifteen tests to grade before tomorrow. (See what I mean?) Tomorrow night?

Signed,

Methuselah (still raven-haired, damn it)

You must be joking. The infamous Sirius Black stuck inside Hogwarts marking tests? Whatever is the world coming to?

That's fine, then. I'll just sit here in my dark little bookshop, old and cold and alone. With no old dog to glare at me.

Woe.

Oh, I am leading a most exemplary life, these days.

I hate to think of you in your dark bookshop, mostly because I am saddened by the fact that you are grown too old and weak to cast a proper heating charm. But I'm tempted to make the third-years wait a day, our decrepitude notwithstanding.

Shall I?

Why on earth would I want a bloody heating charm when I have you?

Get over here. The little blighters can wait.

Right, then.

See you in half an hour.

Make it fifteen minutes, and there'll be a doggy treat in it for you.

I don't know. Maybe we could go on holiday or something, since we didn't get to in the summer.

jadedsirius @ 2004-03-29 03:34 pm UTC

Yes! Anywhere in particular you'd like to go? We can talk to Remus about this, if he doesn't see it.

I see it, and I think it's a fine idea. Though of course, certain things must be taken into consideration. I don't think I need to spell it out for anyone.

Why don't we discuss it this week? I'll come up the castle, I'm certain the Headmaster will spare me a horseless carriage since the walk's a bit much for me these days. We can take dinner in Sirius's rooms, Harry.
