Well, I can't blame the Malfoy's "gala" for living up to my expectations of it. Actually, it exceeded my expectations by being at once dreadfully boring and monumentally pretentious. Although the evening did have its amusements: Lucius' blissfully ignorant wife, the aptly named Narcissa, bustling around playing hostess of the year as if anyone but a few miserable souls really wanted to be there. I certainly didn't, though I was damned if I was going to let Severus anywhere near Lucius Malfoy alone. Actually, considering the way he was dressed, I suppose I needn't have worried. No one in his right mind would touch him when he looked like Sinistra. I certainly couldn't.

The other amusement of the evening was Lucius himself, dressed as some Hollywood vision of a vampire (quite appropriate now that I think of it), lording it about the place, as if he had ever lifted a finger to earn a knut, rather than have it all willed to him. Of course, his intense jealousy led him to pick a fight with me. One that I had to finish. I apologise for the fray, but it seemed that Lucius' bloodied nose was the least of the evening's festivities. Perhaps it improved his face. I doubt it, though.

I missed most of the dragon excitement; I seem to have developed an aversion to them. At least the bar was well-stocked.

I decided to take the long way back to Hogwarts, in animagus form. There really was no reason to get back sooner.
