Working at the Ministry
I have neglected my journal quite scandalously I'm afraid, but the past few weeks have been quite busy. I have been doing front desk work at the Ministry and while it is not perhaps the most challenging, I must say the experience is entirely worth it. I am meeting some of the most fascinating people, such as Amelia Bones, who is the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. I have admired her for quite some time because of articles in Magical Law Today and The Daily Prophet, but even more so since having spoken with her. I really am certain I would someday like to be on the Council of Magical Law.

I have not forgotten that darling Mr. Weasley, however, who was the one kind enough to help me get a job at the front desk. I usually bring in fresh baked muffins in the morning, and I always make a point to save him his favourite and keep it warm for him when he walks into the office. Despite the current situation of his own department, he is sweet enough to come visit me and see how I'm doing. We have even gone to lunch occasionally to discuss various details of the Ministry. We don't agree on everything, of course, but hearing his point of view really is quite fascinating. Regardless I am eternally grateful for the kindness he has shown me. Mr. Weasley is such a handsome and clever man, even if he does not strike me as particularly ambitious.

It has been rather busy at home as well. Going to and from work has at least gotten easier since I've gotten my apparation license. I have been spending quite a lot of time studying for the NEWTs and last week my mother "came down with something" although the mediwizard couldn't find any cause of illness. Still mother groans so loudly about headaches and dizziness, and she has resigned to staying in bed. The mediwizard said that this was not a bad thing as she probably could use some rest. But unfortunately mother insists that I look after her when I'm home because she has "taken care of me all those years and it is the very least I could do." I do admit I was very well cared for as a child, but it was not by her if memory serves.

All in all I am having quite a pleasant time, and my only regret is I have not been able to see Draco or Millicent as much as I would have liked. But I suppose I shall try to make a point of it next weekend.

The Council of Magical Law is a fascinating place, is it not? Ms Bones is a lovely woman, simply brilliant and quite innovative. I confess that I myself aspire to one day serve on the Wizengamot. Of course, this would naturally be several years into the future, but I feel it is a worthy aspiration. It is always interesting to see youth taking interest in the more serious wizarding career fields.

Why, darling, aren't you an impressive fellow? Certainly, it is an admirable aspiration, and I am of the opinion that it does not hurt to have ambition. I may have to keep an eye on where your career takes you, Mr. Weasley, as I am certain it shall be fascinating wherever you end up going. Perhaps our paths shall cross sometime in the future.

I don't need ambition when I have the love of my family, pet! Yet another topic to cover over lunch, maybe tomorrow or early next week mayhap?

la_pensee @ 2003-07-31 01:35 pm UTC

You darling! Mr. Weasley, I would be delighted to have lunch with you again. Perhaps I could pack us up something to eat and we could dine outside for once. The weather is supposed to be quite lovely the next few days, and I have all the right ingredients for some fresh lemonade and sandwiches. Are you fond of salmon paté on melba rounds? I do believe I could whip us up some of that as well.

Do tell me what suits you best. I am quite open for tomorrow, although I do have an opening next week as well, if you would not be opposed to seeing me twice in such a short while. I look forward to our discussion, but I can almost already see your point as you do really have such a wonderful family.

I'm quite fond of the old peanut/jelly combination myself, but that salmon and melba thing sounds edible, certainly!

Tomorrow it is, then, there's a charming little park a short walk from the Ministry that I stumbled across one day when I was chasing after an ice-cream van. There's little picnic tables and everything there if you don't feel like sitting on the grass, or else we can drag out the old company picnic rug!

Next week would be a welcome distraction as well, I would believe! I'll have to tell you all about the kittens, as well.

The park sounds just perfect, Mr. Weasley, and if you did not mind, I do think I would prefer the company rug or even the bare grass. Picnic tables are nice enough but the wood can be quite uncomfortable, and one can hardly sprawl out lazily (and don't we do enough sitting in the office?) Perhaps the two of us could treat ourselves to ice cream afterwards should we cross paths with that ice cream truck you were chasing.

I look forward to seeing you, this week and the next, and hearing all you have to say. Also, do not worry, I shall be sure to pack you some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as well since you seem fond of them.

PS. Did I mention how nice those robes looked on you today?

Perfect! I love picnics on the grass! I'll bring the thermos!

Say, do you know much about cricks in the neck because I've got this awful pain and you're such a pretty young thing, you could be the type to know things about working with hands and the like.

PS. Good gracious! You didn't! Remarkable, those robes are my favourite. I, myself, look forward to your outfits every morning!

Mr. Weasley, you ought to have mentioned the pain in your neck earlier! Forgive my lack of modesty but I have been told I am quite good at massages and therefore, I would be very happy to give you one. I hope that it will help as it can't be comfortable to work all day with such an unpleasant ache.

Also, thank you for your compliment. I'm so pleased to hear you have liked some of my outfits as well. I shall be sure to wear one of my favourites tomorrow, and you must tell me if you like it. As for you, I'm sure you shall look dashing as always.

I'll look forward to an extra-smashing lunch time tomorrow, then! I hope your right about those magic hands of yours.

Good heavens, I haven't been calling dashing in years. Delightful! I'll be sure to let you know precisely what I think of yours, pet.

la_pensee @ 2003-07-31 10:49 pm UTC

Why then I shall remember to call you dashing more often, Mr. Weasley, as you are one of the few men who deserve to have such a word used in association with them.

Perhaps I am over eager but I think I shall be off now to prepare our lunch for tomorrow so I can make sure everything is perfect. It is always a pleasure to talk to you.

Hm. Looks as if the honeymoon with Molly is over.

Pardon, Lucius?

She is a pretty little thing, isn't she? As you've noticed. Enjoy your lunches with her but do be sure to shut your office door.

wehaveseven @ 2003-08-01 07:00 pm UTC

WHAT?

Now look here, I don't give two hoots what you get up to around the workplace but I'm quite content with my family and my work life and all I'm doing here is helping some young lass get towards the same kind of thing.

Go back to your gutter.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2003-08-01 07:19 pm UTC

Oh, I can see that you are helping her get towards the same kind of thing. Absolutely.

Do let me know how magical her hands are, won't you?

wehaveseven @ 2003-08-01 07:28 pm UTC

Seeing as the Parkinsons are well-aquainted with the Malfoy family, I do believe, if I were to go down that path, I'd be sure you'd already been down it. So you'd already know. So move along now, Lucius.

purestblood @ 2003-08-01 07:42 pm UTC

I am unsure what path you would be referring to, but there's a most interesting book in my collection by an author by the name of Nabokov. I think it would be just your sort of book. Shall I owl it to you?

(parent)
wehaveseven @ 2003-08-01 07:46 pm UTC

By all means, if you want me to throw it straight into the fireplace.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2003-08-01 07:49 pm UTC

It's a rather good book, actually. Ask Molly. No doubt she's heard of it.

wehaveseven @ 2003-08-01 07:52 pm UTC

Do. Not. Talk. About. My. Wife.

In ANY light.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2003-08-01 11:28 pm UTC

Now, now, Arthur. Molly is exactly suited to be the wife of a man like you and the mother of the Weasley clan.

(parent)
wehaveseven @ 2003-08-01 11:33 pm UTC

If you come anywhere near her or any of my children in spite on the weekend at Albus' party, I'll break your nose.

(parent)
purestblood @ 2003-08-01 11:42 pm UTC

Arthur, please. I have no interest in Molly or any of the Weasley clan apart from my continued interest in your well-being. Narcissa is still recovering and requires my constant attention, in any case. And I do mean constant.
