Teacher, leave those kids alone.
What is it about the end of the term that makes everyone lose their heads?
I've had a sandy-haired, Irish shadow for the last few days, except for the occasions when I had to teach lessons to people who are not sixth-year Gyffindor, and as much as I enjoy Seamus's company I prefer the happier version to the current, sullen and completely depressing one we have now.
The summer holidays couldn't have come at a better time, methinks.
I am finding homes for all the animals in the Menagerie, though a few are going to have to come back to Dogear with me as they are not trained to be handled by anyone else but myself, Sirius or Harry. The Fwoopers, the Griphorn, the Crup - not to mention Buckbeak of course. I will have to sort out their transportation next week - a word to the wise: do not ever attempt to Floo a Fwooper, unless you want a terminal case of sooty feathers everywhere. A lesson learnt the hard way by Hagrid many moons ago.
Speaking of moons, I am dreading Saturday. The boys will be setting up their Quidditch pitch, and I will be completely unhelpful after sundown as paws aren't exactly conducive to carpentry. I'll at least be harmless, thanks to Severus and his potion, so I can at least watch the fun. And drool on anyone who tramples the lupine and dogwood.
Sirius is currently sprawled across my legs, doing the Prophet crossword and pointedly ignoring the article on the front page about the attack on Pant-Y-Gyrdl last week. he's not saying anything about it and I am not saying anything about it, and by not saying anything about it we're saying quite a lot.
Harry's been round, to do his homework and play with Rosie to distract himself from studies and headaches. He also discovered that if you scratch Sirius behind the ear, his leg will shake. I didn't even know this, and now that I do - in fact, I think I do it now. Hold on.
Remarkable. This is endlessly amusing. I shall be occupied for hours.
Next week is going to be a trial. Exams to be given to everyone, including OWLs and NEWTs. The students are counting down the days with a mixture of anticipation and dread. I don't blame them. It's terribly stressful to have something so momentous on approach without knowing what to expect of it. I trust they will all be fine, but we won't know that until the time comes. And I daresay the teachers are as nervous as the students about it!
Sirius is purring. I'm a dead man for saying that, but I think it's cute. Isn't it, Harry?
You know, I think I will cut this short and go look up some protection charms and security spells to put up around Dogear at the weekend. No sense in leaving these things to the last minute.
Or until it's too late.
Goodnight, everyone.

Gosh, I'm sorry, Professor! You should have said something. I'll try to be more cheerful, or something, or, you know, there are other things to do, I'm sure.

No worries, Seamus. I don't mind your company. I only wish you did not have to feel so down all the time. I am sorry.
You will visit this summer, yes?
- Professor Lupin

Yes, definitely! That would be brilliant!
And thanks for the games last night. Wizard Poker is a very good thing to know.

Hullo, Professor! You know, if the teachers are as nervous about the exam, I reckon it'd be best if they got cancelled, don't you think!
lupercus @ 2003-06-11 10:59 pm UTC Re: |
A noble effort on your part.
What're you doing up so late?
knight_to_h3 @ 2003-06-11 11:02 pm UTC Re: |
Nothing really, Seamus couldn't sleep so we're in the common room using the computer here... Do you know what the questions for the exam will be??
(parent) lupercus @ 2003-06-11 11:09 pm UTC Re: |
Ah, yes. I can't sleep either.
And no, I'm afraid I don't know what the questions are yet, but right now thousands of trained monkeys are working furiously to come up with them for me. I'll keep you posted.
If you boys are bored, come on up. I've got hot chocolate and biscuits and embarassing stories about Professor Snape from his school days.
I'm not above bribery for company, obviously.
knight_to_h3 @ 2003-06-11 11:12 pm UTC Re: |
Monkeys?! That's not very wise, is it!
We're on our way!!! Should I wake Harry up too? He hasn't been sleeping well because of you know..
lupercus @ 2003-06-11 11:18 pm UTC Re: |
I was joking, Ron.
Normally I would love to see Harry but if he's asleep and he hasn't been sleeping well lately, then I would rather you let him be. He needs his rest.
Still, check on him and if he's up, bring him along. We'll play some Exploding Snap, or I could teach you Wizard Poker.
And of course, tell you about the time Professor Snape was sat upon by Bertha Jorkins during a Potions assembly...
lupercus @ 2003-06-11 11:29 pm UTC Re: |
Yes, I know. And Sirius?
We can meet you in Albus's office tomorrow morning before lessons.
What?
lupercus @ 2003-06-11 11:37 pm UTC Re: |
Right.
Why is Millicent Bulstrode knocking on my door?
What's this about a llama?
potions_master @ 2003-06-11 11:40 pm UTC Re: |
She is inquiring about Potter's scar.
There is no llama.
