The True Story.
Ron and I went to see Harry today. He's got a lot better and he explained to us what happened, so I went to check with Professor Dumbledore and asked him if I could possibly post this to the journals. He agreed that it was best everyone knew the truth, which will be quite a relief after hearing some of the theories people have been coming up with. Do you know, I heard one theory that Crabbe was behind the entire thing? Honestly.

In any case, this is what happened, based upon what Harry told us.

Harry overslept on Friday, and since he'd been having such trouble sleeping, his roommates let him sleep in for Double Divination; Ron thoughtfully left a note on his face informing him that he'd overslept, which is absolutely ridiculous if you ask me. Harry ran for Divination just a bit after lessons had formally started, which from what I can gather is when the Apparation wards started to go down. I expect they started in the Charms corridor, because when Harry ran through, You-Know-Who and several Death Eaters Apparated into the corridor. As anyone who has read Hogwarts, a History knows, the Apparation wards on Hogwarts are set up by sections, and those in the Charms corridor are the newest ones. Of course, some of this I've gathered from pure logic; the attack the Death Eaters made on Mafalda Hopkirk's home a few weeks ago was specifically an attack in which they took Apparation wards down and did absolutely nothing. I suspect it was a practice attack to see if they could take the wards at Hogwarts as well. It makes perfect sense.

I don't think the Death Eaters came for Harry, because Harry said You-Know-Who seemed just as surprised to see him. You-Know-Who would have to be pretty senseless to Apparate into Hogwarts with an entire army of Death Eaters to get Harry, I expect, and Professor Dumbledore says he doesn't believe they were here for Harry, either. It seems at some point recently, Malfoy told Harry he could win any duel by transfiguring his opponent's wand, which I suppose is a clever idea, although I can't see why Harry let Malfoy transfigure his wand to demonstrate.

Apparently You-Know-Who started to do a spell on the structuring of the school, which I think also proves that he wasn't here for Harry. Harry did the first thing he thought of and turned You-Know-Who's wand into a fish, but the spell must have gone through before he did it, because Harry says the ceiling started to cave in. Of course, there were plenty of Death Eaters there who could easily have turned it back, which is a flaw in the plan that anyone could have seen, so Harry ran off with the fish while the ceiling caved in. He got caught under it, and I rather imagine You-Know-Who must have got hit as well, because the Death Eaters were gone later.

That's the last thing I heard from Harry. The second year Hufflepuffs had Charms at that time, of course, and Ginny said Soblessa was out of class to retrieve her work from Gryffindor Tower. She must have been running through the Charms corridor at the time. Most of the others who were missing were hiding, it seems; when the professors found out the Apparation wards were down, a few of them instructed anyone who could Apparate to do so, as of course everyone heard or saw what happened to the North wing. I can't even imagine what You-Know-Who did to take the entire wing out, but there you have it.

Well, my dad says Dumbledore's a brilliant man you know. Anyway, transfiguring You-Know-Who's wand into a fish? Brilliant! I didn't know Potter was such a genius!

Thank you for posting this, Hermione.

That was really very clever of Harry. It's a clever idea and such an obvious one that I doubt anyone's even thought to do it before.

A fish! It's brilliant! They'd be utterly useless, you can't transfigure it back if you've got no wand! Go, Potter, go!

Oh, Harry! Oh he's such a clever little boy and such a strong thing!!!!! SO BRAVE little Harry!! Oh, I can't even imagine being in a showdown with You-Know-Who like that and to think on your feet! Such a clever idea and to come up with it on your feet like that! Oh, Harry, my heart!

Ah! An excellent idea, Harry, if you get the chance to read this.
