While you know how much I do look forward to the annual Malfoy Galas each year on their many occasions, I am afraid that this is one that I will have to decline to attend. Since Hogwarts will be relatively empty that weekend due to the amount of professors that will surely attend, I had intended to look into the thought of fulfilling the promise that I owe you. However, if you would rather I did not keep my promise, then by all means, I'll understand.

My, but you are cheeky like your father at times. Of course I would prefer you keep your promise to me, but seeing as it is already taking you more than enough time to fulfill the promise, I think another delay will not harm my psyche too terribly much. Your father, I know, is looking forward to seeing you, as am I. Ultimately it is your decision, which I will hold in high esteem regardless.

If you insist, I'll attend. Of course, the Prefects are required to act as stand-in professors during the courses of any evening when professors are absent, and I will probably lose my Prefect's badge due to ignoring my responsibilities, but surely the Halloween gala will be worth missing becoming Head Boy next term. There were also certain possibilities I had considered for that weekend, but I am sure the professors will all exit the castle at once several times over the course of the year. Do send my regards to Father.

You have misread me, Little Dragon. I am not insisting anything. As I have previously stated, I will respect whatever decision to which you come concerning this matter. Becoming Head Boy is a high honour befitting a Malfoy and you should know that I would not want to be the cause of you possibly jeopardizing that title.

As you've shown no inclination to keeping your promise to your mother I hardly think one more night will matter. Exactly what sort of proof do you intend to offer to show that you've kept said promise?
However, I will leave it up to you to decide if your attendance at the Gala is necessary.
