Parties, Pleasantries, and the Duties of a Wife
I must say I do feel so much more better than I have in weeks. For a time after the dreadful murder of my darling son's owl I was simply beside myself with worry. So concerned for the well-being of my precious child, I had made myself ill over the matter. Although I valiantly tried to keep up with my duties about the Manor and update my journal, weakness had overtaken my entire immune system. Bedridden for a few days, a gaggle of house elves attended to my every need. One particularly high-pitched one even typed my last journal entry for me as I had dictated it to her.
As for the matter of Draco's deceased owl, the Weasleys have agreed to compensate the Malfoys for our loss. Immediately after Draco had discovered the owl dead, Lucius leapt into action and had traveled to Ottery St. Catchpole to speak with Arthur and Molly Weasley about the brash and appalling behavior of his son. Before Lucius had gone to meet the man, I reminded him to take his ledger along so that Arthur could see for himself all of the money we have invested in supplying our son with an extraordinarily loyal and well-trained owl. I really could not even garner a guess as to the total sum expended on Quirinus but I do know that it was quite a bit. (Lucius, darling, if you are reading this, would you mind producing me a copy of the ledger, dear? I am very interested to see exactly what we spend on the poor, late owl.)
When he had returned from meeting with the Weasleys my dashing Lucius was not in the best of moods. Apparently they insisted that they would not pay or something to that affect. I am a bit hazy on what exactly ensued there as I was still under a great deal of duress.
A week after hearing no word from the Weasleys that they had changed their minds and would alleviate the monetary burden their son placed upon us I suggested to Lucius that I ought to meet with Molly Weasley woman-to-woman, mother-to-mother and see if the two of us could not come to some sort of agreement.
Because I would be going to meet with a frumpy, poor, fashion sense-less woman such as Molly Weasley, I had to naturally acquire some sort of traveling attire that would be befitting of the company I would be in. I, Narcissa Malfoy, actually purchased an outfit off-the-rack for this rendezvous. I had never felt so cheap and dirty in my entire life.
Dressing down must have suited me because Molly Weasley eventually gave in and told me that she and her family would make restitution for what Ron had done. I should hope so! Her child murdered my child's owl!
As they are trying to work out some sort of payment plan Lucius has withdrawn his plans to take the Weasleys to court. I can only pray to Merlin that this problem is taken care of quickly.
My, it is perfect timing that my health has been restored as this week is going to be extremely busy.
This weekend I shall be having a few female professors from Hogwarts as well as a number of pureblooded witches to the Manor to learn about etiquette, fashion, beauty, and a woman's responsibilities in the household. I do hope that some of Draco's friends plan on attending. A proper young lady can never learn enough about her place and behavior in society if you ask me.
Also on Friday evening Lucius and I have special plans with a few old friends in a darling rustic spot full of nostalgia. Ah, the days of our youth when we were so very confident and strong and fearless. . . My, I do believe I can hardly wait until Valentine's Day. Being with old friends, looking toward the future, wearing some fabulous bit of jewelry that Lucius will be sure to gift me. . .

LET! IT! GO! ALREADY!
Bloody hell, it is a sodding OWL! Be thankful I didn't kill your SON!

Are you threatening the life of my son? I don't think that's very amusing in the slightest. I do hope that you try to make ammends for the strife you have caused your family and contribute the the funds your parents will be paying the Malfoys. After all, it is your fault that your mother is so upset and worried about making ends meet now.

YOUR!
SON!
SENT!
ME!
DEADLY!
SPIDERS!
HE STARTED IT!
WHAT PART OF THAT DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?!
blondenarcissa @ 2003-02-08 11:08 pm UTC |
Draco may have sent you spiders which he was doing to be polite. You, in turn, murdered his owl. Your family will be paying the Malfoys for the loss of Draco's messenger. By your avoidance of my question, I assume that you are too cruel and uncaring as to your mother's emotions and well-being to help contribute to a cause now important to your entire family. No wonder the poor woman shed so many tears over you when I met with her not long ago. You could do by taking a leaf out of Draco's book and being compassionate and concerned about your mother.

If you don't stop harassing My Mother, Weasley, I'm sure My Father and Professor Snape will have something to say about it. I understand that being raised in your home, you weren't taught to respect authority, as your parents have none, but one would think that you could have learned even the slightest class by now.
Five points from Gryffindor for yelling at a Prefect's Mother.

You can't bloody do that, YOUR MOTHER IS NOT IN HOGWARTS!
(parent)onourbrooms @ 2003-02-13 05:47 pm UTC |
And are we all not quite fortunate for this happy, happy truth?
(parent)purestblood @ 2003-02-09 08:29 pm UTC |
Mr. Weasley,
You will never speak to my wife in that manner again. Do I make myself clear? Is there something I could do to help reinforce that lesson? If so, rest assured that I will do so.
Your mother and I have agreed that you will be working part-time around Hogwarts to help pay some of the expenses related to replacing Draco's owl. Seven thousand galleons is a lot of money to some, Mr. Weasley, and especially so to your parents. You will report to Professor Snape and he will see to it that you are given jobs suitable to your education and upbringing.
Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have regarding this matter.

Father,
As always, I'm proud to be your son. I knew you would find a way to make sure Weasley didn't go unpunished, and this is certainly the least he can do to make it up to me.
Your pride and joy,
Draco

My darling husband and charming son:
I must say, I am ever so lucky to have such a wonderful husband and son. The lenghts you go to in order to both protect my honour and show your devotion is both admirable and endearing beyond belief. It makes me proud to be a Malfoy
Love,
Narcissa
(That's Mummy to you, Little Dragon.)

I love how you say it like I have a choice in whether or not I want to turn up for the lesson.

So does this mean you will be in attendance? Oh, brilliant! I shall be sure to have your colours done. I suspect you are an Autumn.

Blushing is perfectly natural and feminine. You should embrace your tinted cheeks.

I shall most certainly be attending. I cannot speak for my sister, though.

Miss Patil, thank you for accepting the invitation. I shall look forward to seeing at least one Patil this weekend. I do hope you can persuade your sister to join you.

Actually, Mrs Malfoy, I have just discovered that my sister will indeed be coming, so you can count both Patils for the weekend.
My deepest apologies if you receive this message twice. As Professor Trelawney predicted yesterday, the journals are having troubles this afternoon.
