Current music:infernal yowling

Ars Longa Vita Brevis
No one has come forward to claim the wretched beast currently sprawled across a duvet in my chambers. I can certainly see why - this is a hopeless little creature, malnourished to the point of delirium. Earlier this evening it mistook my hair for some sort of toy and amused itself batting at it while I failed half the first years on their Forgetfulness Draughts. It did not desist its infernal annoyance even when spoken to harshly. I wonder if this animal is somehow deaf, or perhaps a victim of the same selective hearing the students seem afflicted with.

However now the creature seems fatigued. Attempts to feed it have been unsuccessful. It - she, closer inspection revealed - refuses to consume the foul-smelling swill brought to her by Filch, which is not at all surprising, however she also refused McGonagall's more palatable offering of halibut and a saucer of milk. Minerva seemed most vexed by the state of the feline but refused to take it away with her. She seemed to think I could "do with the company." Thus, I am now convinced that McGonagall is out of her tree.

The beast is wailing now. It is a grating sound not unlike the pitch of whinging students when complaining to me about so-called unfair marks on their tests. It is not enough that I must endure this caterwauling during my waking hours, but I am forced to listen to it now as I try to sleep.

I suppose I should attempt to feed her again. I will do so now.

Edit: Attempt at feeding resulted in severely bitten hand. However, cat now seems more alert and functional. Intriguing. Creature may require some study. Will need to go to Lupin's office to procure necessary element required to prove suspicions about cat.

Hand really bloody hurts. Hospital Wing first, then Lupin's office.
