Yet there's still this appeal...
And here I was think that the holidays were going to be a bit dull. I care not what everyone else is doing, only that Sylvia and I are getting away from this very hellish place. Well, I suppose I should backtrack.

I did, indeed, call Minerva's challenge regarding Draco's Prefect status. Many goblets of butterwhiskey were had, but I finally emerged victorious. I won the game of "strip poker" since we exhausted all other board games in the school. I was not about to challenge her to a one on one Quidditch match since she can barely walk - it would have been completely unfair. Of course, I kept this on the back burner, fairness and ethics be damned. So Draco remains safely secure in his status. I, on the other hand, have suffered a slight chill and have been running a slight fever, but it's all for the good of the House.

I really despise the headache that is purchasing gifts for the unworthy. Instead of fighting the throngs at the shops over the weekend, I selected from a series of catalogues. It is the way of the future, I assure you. I've even managed to find something quite rare for Xiomara, and only available on the wiz-net. I've even purchased something for him - call it a momentary lapse of reason, but there you have it.

Earlier this week, Sylvia and I were at dinner in Hogsmeade lamenting over the lack of anything truly interesting to do over the hols. I believe after several glasses of wine, we decided to actually go somewhere instead of staying put. On returning to the castle, we charmed a map against the wall in her bedroom and threw darts to determine our destination. Russia it is. Of course, we know nothing about it, which means that people there will know nothing about *us*. Good enough for me.

I have to be amused at the drama that is the Hufflepuff Debacle. Really, that house should be thanking Mr Finch-Fletchley. I doubt that house has seen that much action and scandal since the unfortunate Mr Diggory passed on.

In a way, it is almost fitting that the most unlikely of students is the first to actually have a sex scandal. I would almost congratulate the boy, but it was very clumsy to be caught sneaking back. In *my* days as a student, we never got caught. I'm beginning to despair at the new generation, my own Slytherins excepted, naturally.
