Current mood:enraged

Well, I've finally returned to the Manor and unpacked and settled in. I suspect the majority of Hogwarts doesn't realise what a relief the holidays are, as Hogwarts is likely the nicest place they've ever been. Of course, Malfoy Manor isn't the size of a school, but since it's only populated by three people and an occasional house-elf, it might as well be thirty times larger than Hogwarts. Mother's elf, Dacey, and I got into a bit of a row this morning when I told her to stop punishing herself and then told her to disobey. Of course, she was terribly confused and somehow I ended up running for my life over the grounds of the Manor until I ended up in a heap in the South gardens and Dacey collapsed a suitable distance away and started sticking reeds under her fingernails. This, I suspect, marks the start of the theme for this summer, which shall likely be the War With Dacey.

Father has scheduled my Apparation test for 18 July, so until then I suppose I'll go over the texts on it, though I don't quite see the point in studying for an Apparation exam. I'm rather certain that if I practise I'll get charged for Apparating without a licence, so the whole thing seems incredibly absurd. A practical for which you can't practise. Well done.

I, of course, made my annual visit to Potter's compartment on the Hogwarts Express, and managed to escape unscathed for the first time since third year. Potter's friends are so touchy. In my fourth year they all hexed Crabbe, Goyle and me at once and didn't even apologise. You'd think they could have a bit more class than that, but instead they repeated the issue at the end of fifth year. Just because it happens on the train instead of at Hogwarts, they think violence is the answer. I'm certainly not a violent person, so I can't understand it. In any case, Weasley et al managed to control themselves this year. Speaking of Weasley, I had a very interesting chat with him the other day. Of course, I'm having trouble remembering just what he had to say, so I expect he'll have to comment here and remind me.

My Father is currently quite busy helping the Ministry with the aftermath of the recent attack on Hogwarts. I believe he and Mother are planning to donate to St Mungo's again, as Father always makes a point to help the helpless. Our Family has donated to St Mungo's many times before, seeing as they do always seem so underprivileged. Once again no one won the House Cup this year, as they'd decided to drop the subject and simply do up the entire Great Hall in black tapestries as with Diggory. I imagine eventually we'll all change our house colours to black and black.

I tried to have a look at Potter's Muggles when we all reached the platform at King's Cross, but it was impossible to see anything beyond a rather large man who had decided to go neckless and was blocking the rest of my view. Mother told me it was impolite to stare, so I suppose it's for the best, although I've heard they're rather frightened of wizards so I imagine it was quite funny for them to be standing amidst hundreds. I, personally, would have enjoyed watching them tremble in fear, but I suppose there's always the start of term. Finch-Fletchley's parents, unfortunately, didn't look very afraid, so that was rather boring.

Father, I was thinking that it would likely be best to wait to go on holiday until I've my Apparation licence, as then all three of us will be able to Apparate and avoid the traffic on the Floo Network. Of course, if you'd rather take the Floo Network, that would be fine.

Draco,

Please come to my chambers posthaste. I should like to converse with you concerning the extremely dismayed state of my house elf.

Mother

Excellent thought, Draco. I cannot get your mother to agree to a vacation spot anyway, as she wishes to discuss the "vibes" of each possibility with Hera Peligroso anyway. I do prefer to Apparate and with you having your license that will facilitate travel.

If you have any thoughts on possible vacation sites, do let me know. I shall be ordering more vodka for your mother in the meantime.

Father, I think that's an excellent idea. I am certain that Mother is quite thirsty.

Re:

I think that she is much, much thirstier than she realizes. I have instructed Dacey to keep her martini glass full at all times.

I'd hate for your mother to go without, after all.

Oh, I agree. You know, Father, it might be detrimental to Mother's health to continue reading while she's trying to quench her thirst. Perhaps we should have Dacey remove all pesky reading material from the house.

Re:

I've tried that. Luckily for Narcissa, Hera is ever so thoughtful and brings her more reading material on her visits. Such a thoughtful woman.

Oh, yes, that's very thoughtful. Perhaps we should thank her.

Re:

I am not sure I could find the words with which to express my gratitude, should it come to that.

Well, actions do speak louder than words.

Good point there, son. I'll keep it in mind.
