Current mood:enraged

My birthday is now in twenty four days, you may be interested to know. Unless, of course, you've an advent calendar leading up to my birthday, in which case you'll need no reminders.

Why is it that it constantly seems to be Monday? I'm beginning to think that someone is tampering with the weekends to make them shorter. No, I'm not actually being poisoned mentally by Hufflepuffs, but one can't really count Friday as the weekend, since we have lessons, and everyone spends great parts of Sunday thinking about the fact that the weekend is over. Really, they're only one day, once you've got through all of the details.

Naturally, I'm looking quite forward to going home for the holidays. I cannot overemphasise what a relief it always is to return to Malfoy Manor after months at Hogwarts. To my horror, I almost become adjusted to the cramped living conditions here, and the Manor always seems rather large for the first few days. I've finished all of my Christmas shopping, and now all I need to do is put the finishing touches on my Christmas cards. I've put a large amount of effort into Millicent's card this year, as last year she complained that I sent her a note on a scrap of parchment that I had lying around. She won't appreciate it, of course, as she's an ingrate, but the knowledge of my generosity is enough for me.

I've decided that I'd like to own a shop. I don't actually want to run it, of course. I'd simply like to own it and have employees. And, of course, to receive the profits. I've not decided what type of shop I'd like to own, but since I'm of legal age, I think it's time that I started having my own properties. I'll have to put some deep thought into the sort of shop I'd like to own. I thought Quidditch, but that seems so obvious. Actually, I'd like to own Ollivander's, but they're so touchy about being owned only by Ollivanders.

It is a pity about Ollivander's but I am sure any sort of store you start by yourself would be much more interesting anyway, dear.

potterstinks @ 2003-12-09 01:48 pm UTC

That's quite true, Pansy. Perhaps I could start my own line of wands.

Would you like Ollivander's for Christmas or your birthday, dear?

Love,
Mother

potterstinks @ 2003-12-09 01:53 pm UTC

Oh, likely my birthday, but I've been thinking that I shouldn't try for Ollivander's. If Ollivander quit, I'm not sure I'd be able to find someone else enthusiastic about wand cores, and I'd certainly hate to resort to trying to do it myself.

Draco,

Well perhaps Mother can find something that is better than Ollivander's for you, darling. I think that wand cores may be a bit beneath you.

Love,
Mother

I think, actually, you should open a design firm. That way you can write off the redecoration of the house in France as a business expense, and also spread good taste across a wizarding world that sorely, sorely needs it.

I will of course have other things to do, as I have a Mission In Life, but I would be happy to be a ridiculously high-paid special consultant.

potterstinks @ 2003-12-09 01:55 pm UTC

Perhaps, but if the entirety of the wizarding world had good taste, everything would likely be thrown awry.

seamus_f @ 2003-12-09 02:02 pm UTC

No, no, old man. One keeps raising the bar, thereby maintaining the balance and keeping oneself in business.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2003-12-09 02:04 pm UTC

Old man?

I may be generous, but I hardly see myself as a saviour of the bad taste of everyone who needs my help.

seamus_f @ 2003-12-09 02:13 pm UTC

This is not altruism, idiot. This is a fertile business opportunity. You stay one step ahead of everyone, and they flock to you.

potterstinks @ 2003-12-09 02:19 pm UTC

Or I could simply start a pawn shop and sell people their belongings at a high inflation when they come to collect them back a year later.

(parent)
seamus_f @ 2003-12-09 02:37 pm UTC

True, but the sort of people who need to sell you their trumpet to get the rent are a bit seedy, aren't they? You must be mindful of your clientele.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2003-12-09 02:41 pm UTC

Yes, but you need only to imagine their desperation to get it back to truly grasp the amount of inflation one could tack on. Besides, I wouldn't be the one standing around selling things to them. I'd have people to do that for me.

seamus_f @ 2003-12-09 03:20 pm UTC

Personally, if I had a choice, I would rather have a job that allows me to be among beautiful things and beautiful people, than one that sees people at the end of their tether, no matter the profits.

Then again, I'm going into mediwizardry, so clearly the profit motive isn't that strong in my case.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2003-12-09 03:26 pm UTC

Clearly, you're not thinking outside of the proverbial box. 'Beautiful people'? Really, Finnigan, where's the profit there?

(parent)
seamus_f @ 2003-12-09 08:43 pm UTC

Ask the publishers of Playwizard.

Outside the box? You're the one who wants to open a shop.

It was not the parchment.

It was the dead bugs.

Under glass.

As though that made them more romantic.

Where is the love.

Also.

Porn.

M. B.

potterstinks @ 2003-12-09 02:47 pm UTC

Surely you've finished menstruating by now, Millicent. I'm beginning to suspect that you're faking it.

(parent)
petitemillicent @ 2003-12-09 02:54 pm UTC

There is the love.

What are you doing.

M. B.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2003-12-09 02:57 pm UTC

Telling a story via the art of blanket weaving. My loom is great. And yourself?

(parent)
petitemillicent @ 2003-12-09 03:05 pm UTC

The same.

M. B.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2003-12-09 03:11 pm UTC

Don't be ridiculous. Your fingers aren't nimble enough for that. Actually, I'm addressing the last of my cards.

(parent)
petitemillicent @ 2003-12-09 03:13 pm UTC

I am talking to the hoof.

M. B.

(parent)
potterstinks @ 2003-12-09 03:20 pm UTC

Are we going to start calling Finnigan 'The Hoof' now?

(parent)
petitemillicent @ 2003-12-09 03:27 pm UTC

That was the idea.
