Current mood:enraged

Well, well, well. The Hogwarts Express has ushered us off to Hogwarts, much like Jews to a Muggle concentration camp. I'm certain they'll be turning the showers on at any moment. I did some light reading over holidays, could you tell?

Father, Mother and I spent the last days of holiday on the Riviera in our home there, as well as visiting the Notts. Mrs Nott is an acceptable woman, I suppose, as she gave me a pair of candlesticks as a late birthday gift. I infinitely prefer her to Mrs Macnair or Mrs Avery, in any case. Nott himself takes no joy in the fesitivies of New Year, which is the way I think things ought to go. Mr Nott is clever, though of course he's no match for My Father.

Nott and I spent the evening speaking with Father and Mr Nott, as well as playing a game of Morchevi in the parlour while the elders had a night cap. I won, of course, though Nott is insisting otherwise.

Upon my arrival at King's Cross I very nearly stepped on Periwinkle 'The Blob' Brown and Thomas, who evidently don't look before they walk. This, of course, set the pattern for the rest of the day, which was spent aboard the train trying to convince that stupid witch who serves food to bother coming down to the end of it. Crabbe and I must have hollered for her at least three times before she finally heard us. I don't see why the entire population over the age of fifty must be hard of hearing. Surely they can think of a spell for that.

The return feast was no less interesting than a tea leave reading done entirely in Mermish, by which I mean I couldn't be bothered to pay much attention to the obligatory speech. I did note that Pansy was wearing my Christmas gift and I must say it looked as nice as I thought it would. Millicent, on the other hand, looked as much like Millicent as I thought she would.

I do miss Malfoy Manor already. It's so difficult getting used to poorer everything.

Since term begins tomorrow, I suppose I ought to go to sleep, but Crabbe is snoring and I can hear him from the common room. A fine way to end my first day back at Hogwarts.

Dare I ask from where -- or whom -- you got this inspirational reading material, Mr. Malfoy?

Oh, I was shopping in France and there was a boring little history on the inspiration for a gaudy uniform-esque set of robes I saw. They had booklets attached, and as I wondered why on earth they'd make such ugly robes, I decided to peruse the booklet to see what, exactly, was going through their mind. Evidently they were modelled after soldiers' uniforms, but they felt compelled to go into detail of Muggle history to explain what they were for. I don't know what the world is coming to when people start making robes based upon Muggle soldiers' uniforms.

Those robes were utterly ghastly, weren't they, darling? As if the cut of them wasn't unappealing enough, whomever had the ill taste to design them also chose the most homespun colour scheme known to wizard-kind. You are a much braver soul than I, Draco, for I would not have had the daring to go about perusing the booklet that accompanied those robes. Although I do find it intriguing that said robes were inspired by or based on Muggle soldier's uniforms, I would have much rathered to see robes that were inspired by wizard 'soldiers'. After all, the paintings re-enacting Hengist of Woodcraft leading other wizards to victory over that terribly barbaric band of Scots and Pict squib rebels showcase robes of a most spellbinding cut.

I agree, Mother. Muggle-inspired clothing has no spot in the Wizarding World.

Perhaps we can have some of those made. I could put them in my shop.

Perhaps we can, darling. I imagine robes inspired by Hengist of Woodcraft would look stunning in the window of that elegant shop-front.

Do let me know if you would like for me to send out a few owls on your behalf.

Nor do I, Mr. Malfoy, I'm sure. But a bright young man such as yourself is, of course, aware of the influence fashion design has had on history throughout the ages. Indeed, some fashion trends do appear to be coming back, and I cannot say I find them attractive.

As a member of Slytherin House, you are of course welcome to stop by any time and share your thoughts. Merlin knows I am short of intelligent conversation around this place.

Thank you, sir, although I hope you don't wish to talk to me about robes, as I've actually quite forgotten what they even looked like by now.
