So, what now?
Right, so thanks to missgranger I am no longer purple and much the better for it.
Which made me realize that I have to stop feeling sorry for myself and do something about my current predicament, also known as deanthomas. So, I hung about the common room, waiting for it to descend into its usual nightly chaos (helped along by yours truly). Once it was in full swing, I made my move. Well, not a move really; more like a lean-over-the-charms-assignment-and-ask:
Me: Yeah, so how's dinner Saturday?
He: (Raises one eyebrow. Which, you know, is not a reply.)
Me: Dean?
He: Are you asking me out?
Me: Looks like.
He: I can do that.
I am taking this as a "Yes, Seamus, I would like to go," rather than a "Yes, Seamus, anything so you'll leave me alone." Though really, how could anyone say no? ;)
Only now, I have to work out how to make it date-like, as opposed to friend-like. Friend-like won't do. Suggestions?

Mr. Finnigan,
Reading your journal entry has given me a splitting migraine. Five points from Gryffindor for your overuse of hyphenated words.

Good thing you've decided to actually do something about it. Now things can get back to normal! Honestly, everyone round here's become so quiet lately. It's bloody frustrating.
Try taking Dean for a walk - Hermione likes to do that. Only Dean isn't Hermione, and he's a, er, boy. *flustered*
