SCORE!
Point the first: Harry said he was working hard on his speech on Friday (

Hm. I thought that the confusion was Harry starting to feel the effects of the Veriteserum.
Although I'm not sure if that works out with timelines, as it's not entirely clear who drank the punch or when it was spiked at the reception. Certainly Pansy says she didn't drink any at that point.
But the cut lip and the locking charms and Harry's sudden (forced?) ebullience, and Draco's singing certainly all seem to point to something, no?
princess_draco @ May 12 2003, 21:44:39 UTC |
Why would the Veritaserum make Harry confused? I mean, yes, it does make you tell the truth, but Harry was most likely telling the truth anyway. If anything, he would be talking slowly (isn't that what Barty Crouch talked like in GoF?)

Plus didn't Pansy make it pretty clear she wasn't there for any of the veritaseruum at all?

The song never fails to cheer me up.
Your theory sounds good, and it makes me happy.
Hopefully Draco did apologise. Harry posted more, and he didn't seem quite so unhappy. Not to mention they're obviously on speaking terms (re: email). *bounce* Please let it be so!

Good detective work! But hmm- that just seems to be an awful lot of hypotheticals piled on wishful thinking for me to really agree. As much as the shipper in me would love if that theory were somehow true, I just don't think our boys are quite there yet. I think there is enough evidence to theorize that something happened that night to both of them, and the possibility that it was something involving them interacting in some way doesn't seem to be too far fetched a speculation. However, there's really not much else to go on to make any more solid guesswork. The split lip, the locking spell, Draco missing his detention- all could be completely unrelated things, but it is much more interesting to throw them together ;-). But as much as a split lip can come from being snogged senseless (don't we wish), I think at this point some sort of fighting or hostile confrontation that might have ended in some kind of understanding is far more likely than PS apologizing or some such. I think I need more evidence before I start squeeing, though, all the same.

Yeah, that's more what I think. There does seem to be several hints leading to the idea that they saw each other--Narcissa and Armithmantra stating that Draco missed detention on Friday but showed up somewhat happily on Saturday. Harry never seems to have finished his speech so had to wrap it up quickly. (Plus if he was distracted by some specific incident it probably would make him more flustered when he got to the point in the speech where he was interupted and so was reminded of it.)
But I definitely don't see snogging. Harry's cheerfulness, to me, still sounded somewhat forced. Like he was determined to focus on the positive aspects of the wedding. That doesn't mean he was really depressed or anything, just that I don't take them at face value. PS's singing, imo, shows actual happiness the way j_h's public announcements about how great everything is don't. At least one factual thing in them didn't pan out--he said he was going to work on his speech and then hours later still needed to work on his speech. (Without any hint that he had tried and just didn't come up with something.)
Then there's this split lip and wanting a locking spell. Hearing those two things together the simplest connection is that Harry as somewhere without a lock and somebody came in and split his lip. The simplest answer isn't always correct, though.

The simplest answer isn't always correct, though.
True. For all we know, Harry could have looked up the locking spell on his own in order to have a private place to stash his things in a dormitory full of nosy friends ;-) and tripped down the stairs from Gryffindor Tower to give him that split lip, while Draco skipped detention off meditating somewhere and found some inner peace *laughs*. But I think the fact that Draco is giving even the most obscure acknowledgement of Harry's comments and such points to some kind of change (as was mentioned elsewhere, I think), one Draco either came about on his own or some sort of interaction with Harry brought about. If there was an interaction, though, I doubt it was one that really resolved anything.
But yes, Harry's cheerfulness on his journal Friday night seemed more related to excitement over the wedding that was in spite of the Draco situation rather than because of it. I think any and all changes Draco might be going through are probably mostly unrelated and have more to do with his own personal journey than anything else (theorized on better here than I can ever add to ;-) ).
blue_lightning @ May 13 2003, 14:28:33 UTC Re: |
no, definitely no snoggage. I merely mentioned the sex bit because that's almost the automatic response in fandom. I do believe they resolved something, however. And if it took a tussle to resolve it, then so be it. Hey! If Draco did apologize, maybe he got frustrated by the appreciative look on Harry's face and decided to punch him afterwards.
After all, Draco seems the sort to couple decency with violence. ^_^ Just my opinion.
moonlitpages @ May 13 2003, 14:46:06 UTC |
Hmm- I just don't know if I think PS is at a place yet where he would be willing to apologize to Harry. Because to apologize would be to admit he was wrong, and to admit that he was wrong on this particular point, his entire worldview (regarding homosexuality, etc) up to this point would have to be turned on its head. I think this is in the process of happening for him, definitely, but I just get the sense that he still has a ways to go before he gets there. But I could be wrong.

Your exam comment raises an interesting question:
"Why is that N_A has to pick up from a slow week JUST as my exams start I go into panic mode?"
kat99999 @ May 13 2003, 02:55:46 UTC |
*agrees with this sentiment wholeheartedly*
Freaking exams.
blue_lightning @ May 13 2003, 14:32:59 UTC *sigh* |
Because, for some reason unbeknownst to me, the world doesn't revolve around us.
*smiles* Oh, but it will. One day... just you wait!!!
<_<
or not.

*sigh* good theory. am now very hopeful! i hadn't realised the bit about harry being distracted.... and distracted in the bit about love and sentiment! *squee* but...wasn't he askin gfor locking spells AFTERWARDS though? (from mrs. weasley?) i thought i must've missed a week or something because he said that he had already learned one on friday, but this was saturday.... anyway.
(parent)blue_lightning @ May 14 2003, 14:36:58 UTC Re: |
ah! that's where I got it from... Molly. ^_^ he and she were having a convo about it, but I believe Harry told her it was all right, because he'd already learned one (friday night)

I could totally see Draco slipping some prank message into Harry's speech while he was distracted. This would account for Harry's confusion as we reads something that he didn't write and, if I know Draco, couldn't possibly read in public. And if Draco felt smug, this would also account for the singing. Although I too prefer to imagine him singing after a good bout of snogging.
