A word, from your friendly neighbourhood werewolf.
Mood: curious
Hello, all of you. Lovely day, isn't it?
I was wondering if, perhaps, any of you might have a question for me. I'd like to give you the opportunity to ask it, and I'll do my best to give you a respectable answer.
Of course, I do hope you would exercise a little - er - decor when asking your questions, and I of course reserve the right not to answer the ones I don't think I ought to. A man's got to have some secrets, hasn't he?
So, ask away, my friends. I'll do my best to reply in kind.
Cheers,
- Remus Lupin

Well, aren't you a forward one!
Really quite overrated. They chafe, no matter what Sirius says.
Anonymous @ August 3 2003, 18:40:49 UTC |
How was the party last night ?
Had the children been playing quidditch all night?
Anonymous @ August 3 2003, 18:44:12 UTC |
*wiggles eyebrows*
Was Harry playing "Quidditch" with Draco?
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 19:59:48 UTC |
I suppose, as parties go, it was a very good one. Of course, obviously I should not be allowed/required to give another party ever again, and the next person who suggests that I do may find themself less a few important extremities.
And as far as I know there was a pretty rousing Quidditch match going on in the back garden. Sadly, I missed most of it whilst playing "Hostess." Bugger.
Anonymous @ August 3 2003, 21:55:30 UTC |
Thanks for answering, professor. I was curious because they seemed so quiet. But please don't give up hosting a party. I love your parties, always so dramatic.
(parent)rsiobhan @ August 3 2003, 18:44:13 UTC |
In two words, what are your thoughts on Draco Malfoy?
(parent)lupercus @ August 3 2003, 20:01:47 UTC |
Er... pointy. Perhaps amusing. But in a very... pointy sort of way.
That's it, really.
hobaggins @ August 3 2003, 18:45:13 UTC |
Considering your opinion of Lucius, what are your thoughts and concerns in regards to Harry and Draco's tumultuous friendship
(parent)lupercus @ August 3 2003, 20:09:50 UTC |
Er... well, sins of the father, and so forth. I don't know that I feel comfortable discussing this particular subject. It's not really my business, you see, as I'm not Harry and I don't know Draco outside of lessons. So, all I will say is that as a parent I want my child to always be happy and to never be in pain, and so long as that is the case then I am content to let Harry make his own decisions about who his friends are.
I've always got an eye on him, though. Two eyes, so long as I can spare them.
hobaggins @ August 3 2003, 20:13:44 UTC |
Thanks for answering, sorry if the question was a bit too personal. I was genuinely curious
(parent)sistermagpie @ August 3 2003, 18:47:21 UTC |
Dear Professor Lupin,
I remember you saying once that werewolves were immortal. Did you mean they literally live forever? If so, is this something you think about a lot? Does it effect your relationships with your family etc.?
Um, thanks for the opportunity.:-)
-m
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 20:16:46 UTC |
A werewolf, unless killed properly, will live forever. Or rather, the "wolf" itself will live forever, and the human body is sort of just dragged along for the ride. It's not a pleasant thing - none of that eternal youth or that sort of nonsense.
I do think about it, more often than I care to, and I am ashamed to say that I don't really discuss it with my family though I know we should. I'm not entirely certain how to broach such a subject - hello, I'm probably going to outlive every single one of you. What are your thoughts on that?
I hope that clears things up for you, dear.
dari_brit @ August 3 2003, 18:54:03 UTC |
Professor Lupin,
Assuming that when you assume wolf form, Sirius is considered to be part of your pack, can you tell us who is the alpha? Or do the two of you not draw those distinctions?
At what age did you pick up the habit of smoking? What brand do you smoke? What prompted you to quit the first time?
And one last one...what is your most vivid memory of Lily and James' wedding reception?
Thanks ever so much!
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 20:38:09 UTC |
Werewolves are a touch more complicated than your garden-variety wolf, what with the human nature to take into consideration, but I think it's safe to say that I would technically be the "alpha." Whether Sirius likes it or not.
I started smoking at seventeen during the NEWTs, but I did not become serious about it until some time in my early twenties. I quit when I started teaching, though when things get a bit wonky I tend to start up again. I prefer Muggle brands, specifically Dunhills, though I've been known on occasion to go for Lucky Strikes.
Most vivid memory of that wedding? Sirius's toast as the best man. The hand-gestures were really quite... graphic.
Hope that was what you were looking for!
aurorasinger @ August 4 2003, 08:34:55 UTC |
What exactly do you mean by being 'the "alpha"'?
(parent)lupercus @ August 3 2003, 20:40:10 UTC |
My dear girl, I could write a series of books on the subject of reasons to loathe Lucius Malfoy.
Suffice it to say that if you threaten or attempt to kill one of my own, I will never not hate you.
Azkaban is too good for Lucius Malfoy. Someday, he will pay.
nmalfoy @ August 3 2003, 21:13:07 UTC |
You, um, certainly seemed to take exception to his presence in your home last night. Are you so sure that he's, um, a... you know?
(parent)nmalfoy @ August 3 2003, 22:00:01 UTC |
Oh, that's right. Harry certainly would know. Thank you for taking the time to answer this.
I wish you were straight.
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 22:29:47 UTC |
No problem, dear. Sorry about the gay thing. It happens.
Anonymous @ August 3 2003, 19:06:10 UTC |
Professor Lupin,
I was wondering if you could share a few amusing anecdotes with us about some of the pranks the Marauders played. I'm sure we'd all be delighted to hear about it.
(And I hope you don't think I'm rude for asking, but how exactly did Sirius and Harry's father hook up? I can't imagine what would cause that.)
Thank you for your time,
J.

And if you can descirbe Sirius and James' relationship in detail that would be nice. Like a blow-by-blow account of it?
Ha...
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 20:46:34 UTC |
Sorry, you'll have to speak a little louder next time. I'm slightly deaf in my right ear.
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 20:45:51 UTC |
Oh goodness, just a few? There are seven years' worth of pranks that could be attributed to us!
Here's one incident that stands out: James once slipped a potion into the pumpkin juice at the Slytherin table that, er, turned their urine a very vivid colour. Really harmless, however the Slytherin did not know this and so by the end of the whole of the house turned up in hospital, flushed and complaining of a very delicate situation.
Another incident involved us, a late-night Astronomy class and some faeries that owed us a favour. Needless to say that our teacher at the time never predicted that particular constellation, nor did she enjoy having to explain to the first-years exactly what the stars were depicting.
Goodness, I've not thought of that in years. I really should tell these to Harry, as well.
(And I'm just going to ignore that last question, if you don't mind, because it's not really any of my business. My apologies.)
Cheers!
anjenue @ August 3 2003, 19:09:46 UTC |
Professor Lupin,
Have you ever wished for children of your own? I know you absolutely adore Harry, but have you ever wished to have a baby or small child running around?
I hope this question isn't out of line.
Cheers,
Jules
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 20:47:36 UTC |
Yes.
However, I have Harry, who is all the child I could have ever wished for and more.
I am very, very grateful for that.
anjenue @ August 3 2003, 23:57:25 UTC |
Well, aren't you an absolute darling!
I think you are an incredible father. (Frankly, I'm jealous!)

I'm hesitant to ask another Draco Malfoy question, but I am intrigued by your comment here (http://www.livejournal.com/community/nocturne_alley/178452.html?thread=1565204) (Have you forgotten who his son is?)
Are you referring to Sirius' hatred of Draco or something else?
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 20:48:43 UTC |
Yes.
(Harry would probably say that I'm being a bit of a bastard. He would be right.)
Ta!

How do you reconcile your friendship with Narcissa with your feelings toward her husband?
Thanks so much for volunteering to answer these questions-- you're the best!
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 20:52:34 UTC |
I suppose because Narcissa strikes me as being blissfully unaware. You cannot help whom you love, and I tend to hold people responsible for their own actions rather than the actions of others.
And there's no mark on her arm. Always a plus.
purestblood @ August 3 2003, 22:14:31 UTC |
There may not be a mark, but you, Lupin, are blissfully unaware of just what Narcissa is capable of.
My compliments on a most interesting soiree last night. Your parties are always so noteworthy. Narcissa and I do so look forward to the entertainment value they bring to our lives.
zionsstarfish @ August 3 2003, 19:24:57 UTC |
Hello! I would like your opinion on Martin Miggs, the Mad Muggle:
Scorpio Nespoir: a 2 dimensional bully with the scope and emotional maturity of a bread stick, or someone with as-yet unseen depths and potential?
Also, if I may have a second question: how is Harry, really?
Thank you!
and thanks to lupin's player :D
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 21:01:47 UTC |
Oh, Scorpio in canon is a completely flat and utterly wretched character. I've never enjoyed him. I don't think there's any possible way he can be redeemed considering what a horror he's been in the previous issues. I mean, honestly - how could anyone want anything to do with a vicious, twitchy little muskrat like that? How can Martin suddenly overlook the horrible things he's done in the past?
As for your second question: Harry is okay.
Thank you, dear.
zionsstarfish @ August 3 2003, 21:39:47 UTC |
Hehe :D The way you have phrased it makes me wonder about fanon Scorpio.
*many smooshy hugs* :)
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 22:00:38 UTC |
Oh, fanon-Scorpio is hopeless. I mean, honestly - velvet culottes?
zionsstarfish @ August 3 2003, 23:41:11 UTC |
It could be worse... Scorpio in leather trousers, sans undergarments, on a hot summer's day. O_O
I think it is interesting how many fanon interpretations (and how much gooey love) there can be for a character who, for all apparent intents and purposes, was written to be flat, emotionally stunted and of peripheral importance.
Anyway... you are a dear! Thanks again :)

It was nothing like that.
It was worse.

Hello Professor Lupin,
How is Harry taking last night's.. err.. spectacle? And Draco, if you know? (As his father was involved too, after all.)
Has Sirius come to talk to you and Harry about last night yet, or is he still stalking about the house, as would seem from this post?
Stick to your guns, you're in the right, but I also hope you both can work this out.
Good luck!

Professor Lupin,
Have you met or do you know, personally, any other werewolves?
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 21:17:03 UTC |
I am aware of some, in contact with others, but generally we keep to ourselves. The Ministry perfers us in the singular, because when we are plural we apparently pose a sort of threat.
There was a rather nice fellow I ran into at St Mungo's a couple of years ago. I ought to owl him, see how he is doing.
Thank you for reminding me!

Prof. Lupin,
Why are you so charming? Is it natural or practiced?
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 21:17:59 UTC |
It takes practise to be this natural.

Very much the perfect term for Remus Lupin. Although, without the sometimes negative connotations that are sometimes associated with the word. More in the "perfect man" type sense. Effortless grace. *nods*

You ought to open up a general questioning post. I have so many questions to ask you.
Like, when are you going to hurry up and drag the young master Malfoy into a dark corner? After Prof. Lupin has disclosed to us your knowledge of Things Obscene, I'm sure you'll know what to do in said dark corner.
ritergirl @ August 3 2003, 20:58:39 UTC |
Remus,
Does Harry often talk about Draco?
Also, if you don't mind, what was James like?
Love, R.G
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 21:24:22 UTC |
Harry often speaks of his friends.
James was - I don't know, James was brilliant, James was kind, James was a bit of a prat. He was a complete slob - our dormitory smelled of dirty boy and mouldy socks more often than not. Sirius's main competition for the title of best friend was James's own hair. James had it so bad for Lily that when she finally talked to him he swallowed his quill and was in hospital for a week. James was. Everything I see in Harry, though Harry is even more.
Cheers.

(yes I know these are silly questions, but I'm feeling particularly silly! *nods head*)
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 21:33:09 UTC Re: Cake-servers. |
Never apologise for silliness. There is not nearly enough of it in the world.
It was just that one cake-server. It looked like the sort of thing I ought to own. That particular cake-server just spoke to me.
You should see it. It has a place of honour in the dining room. I like to gaze upon it fondly in passing.
(And now, who is being silly?)
mira_nevlome @ August 3 2003, 22:32:11 UTC Re: Cake-servers. |
It spoke to you did it? Well I won't asked what it said, as I believe there should be some things kept secret between a man and his cake-server. But I would like to thank you for indulging me and my silliness because like you said, there is definitely not enough of it in the world. :)
(I think it can be agreed upon that we both are silly! *grins*)

Two questions: What's your earliest happy memory, and how soon after Harry's birth did you meet him?
(parent)lupercus @ August 3 2003, 21:36:30 UTC |
My earliest happy memory? I have this vague recollection of sitting with my mother, in my bedroom in our cottage when I was very small, and looking at a picture book. There was a castle in it, and I said to her that one day I would go and live in a castle. I think my mum laughed, but I knew. And then I did, and sometimes when I am alone in my rooms at Hogwarts, I will hear something that sounds remarkably like my mother's laughter, and it will make me smile.
And I met Harry about fifteen minutes after he was born. He was very small, and wriggly, and a little bit slimey, and had all the motor skills of a Bludger. And I thought he was completely brilliant.
He's grown some since, though he's still pretty wriggly.

She was a fellow prefect and so I was acquainted with Lily moreso than the others were, which did not amuse James in the slightest. I became more friendly with her in our sixth year - we actually dated briefly until I understood myself a bit more.

Mr. Lupin~
What did you think when Harry first came out? I mean, obviously you were supportive, but did it come as a shock, or had you suspected?
How did the first kiss between you and Sirius happen?
Thanks for doing this! You are fantastic!
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 21:51:07 UTC |
Oh, goodness - well, to be honest I suppose I suspected. No, scratch that, I think I was predisposed to anticipating the possibility. It's like this - a parent that is in a straight relationship would be more inclined to assume that their child would also be straight, and so if that child were to be gay it might/would be quite a shock.
Being gay myself, however, and in a relationship with another man, makes me expect that it is entirely possible that my child - biological or not - could be gay as well. I don't know that it was a shock so much as just another facet of Harry's personality that I needed to get to know. Maybe a bit startling, but then, I'd have been a lot more startled if he'd come to me professing a deep and abiding love for Nifflers.
Our first kiss - oh, dear. If I recall it was the summer before sixth year, and Sirius was visiting me at Dogear where I lived with my grandmother. It was a warm day and so we were out exploring the grounds and I suppose we wound up lazing under a tree, and it seemed like the most natural thing in the world to do, to kiss him.
Still does.

Have either you or Sirius ever dyed your hair any colour?
(parent)lupercus @ August 3 2003, 21:53:29 UTC |
I haven't, though I'm told I should because of all the gray, but Harry says it looks dignified and I'm going to go with what he says.
Sirius hasn't intentionally because when it comes to his hair he's an enormous ponce, but he did get it hexed pink in our fifth year by a certain Slytherin. It was amusing, mostly because Sirius shrieked like a girl until we could turn it back.
Ah, memories. Like the corners of my mind.

lupercus @ August 3 2003, 21:55:41 UTC |
It is very loud. But some of it's quite bouncy.
Muggles always did have the upper hand on the arts.
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 21:56:47 UTC |
Once. Sirius had to untangle me, and while that proved interesting I was sore for days, and I don't think I was made to be that bendy.
jenicomprispas @ August 3 2003, 21:58:30 UTC |
The burning question I had on my mind has already been asked and answered, much to my glee, so I will go for the random.
Have you ever been to Berlin? If yes, is there anything you think I absolutly must see?
I hope everything goes well for you. Yes, everything. And you're a dear for doing this!
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 22:11:02 UTC |
I went to Berlin with my grandmother when I was sixteen. I loved the Siegessaule. It was so high and I thought that if the wind were strong enough the angel on top would actually fly.
I think you ought to go and see the Siegessaule and let me know if the angel has managed it, yet.
Thank you, dear.
Anonymous @ August 3 2003, 22:02:41 UTC |
Do you watch movies? If so, have you seen any good ones lately?
~akutenshi2007~
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 22:17:58 UTC |
Very rarely, as I have trouble convincing my Pureblood spouse that the television is not an evil device meant to doom us all to distraction. The last film I saw was probably Robin Hood which, aside from the Americans trying too hard to sound British and the disturbingly familiar chap playing the Sheriff, was not too bad.
I should probably get out more, I suspect.
Anonymous @ August 3 2003, 22:06:32 UTC |
Have you ever been to Moscow?
Can you speak any foreign languages?
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 22:23:41 UTC |
I have not been to Moscow! I should very much like to go, though.
Languages - I know some Mermish, Gnomish, a little Romanian, more Welsh than is healthy, and Gaelic.
A bheil Gàidhlig agaibh?
Mòran taing!
neveth @ August 3 2003, 22:10:16 UTC |
Do I get 2 questions?
If so, what is the airspeed velocity of an unladen fwooper?
Anonymous @ August 3 2003, 22:19:00 UTC |
Professor,
Has anyone ever approached you about a career in "adult films"? Just curious.
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 22:27:53 UTC |
Only Sirius, but then I Transfigured his camera into a badger and he dropped the subject.
babytyggeryss @ August 3 2003, 22:30:20 UTC |
Dear Sir,
I must first say that I wish you and yours every happiness and, if it were possible, I would hug you.
Now, for the question. If you feel you can't answer it, that's fine: If you weren't with Professor Black, would you date Professor Snape? The two of you seem to be close and enjoy the company of the other.
Thank you for giving me this opportunity. Please hug your oddson for me, if that is ok with the both of you.
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 22:45:09 UTC |
The sentiment is most appreciated, dear.
A very interesting question. Severus does have his charms, doesn't he? Somewhere. Perhaps in a very old, dusty box kept underneath the floorboards.
Seriously - I don't know that I can answer that truthfully without hurting someone I would not want to hurt.
I will pass on that hug for you. Like I need an excuse to manhandle the boy.
blue_raven @ August 3 2003, 22:35:47 UTC |
First of all, I'm so grateful you have chosen to divulge such information for the likes of us. It has been most entertaining.
But, there is one thing I must know, but I don't know if you've been asked it. But I'll ask it anyway.
What does the J stand for?
If you've already answered this, I do apologise, and thanks everso for your time!
portkey @ August 3 2003, 22:36:49 UTC |
Professor,
What did it feel like when Harry was trapped and nobody could find him? What did it feel like when you knew he'd be alright?
And to preserve a sense of levity, who would win in a staring contest between the three members of your family?
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 22:50:06 UTC |
No transformation could ever equal what I felt when I thought we'd lost Harry.
it felt very, very good to find him.
And Harry would win, hands down. I think it's the glasses. He cheats.
notapipe @ August 3 2003, 22:45:21 UTC |
I know I already asked a question, but:
What's your favorite musical? Are there any great wizarding musicals?
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 22:55:01 UTC |
Sirius would tell you that I am entirely too fond of Chess!.
I have heard that A Broomstick Named Aspire is good, though I've actually seen Winnie Get Your Wand and it's fantastic.
Anonymous @ August 3 2003, 22:57:45 UTC |
What part of your body you do like most? Least? Why?
(parent)lupercus @ August 3 2003, 23:05:09 UTC |
I sometimes wish I didn't look so much older than I am. I'm tired of being offered pensioners' discounts at restaurants. I'm not yet even forty!
However, I have a fabulous arse.
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 23:13:08 UTC |
Cadbury's makes the best confections for Easter - Creme Eggs, most definitely - but I prefer America's Hershey bars to anything else. It's heaven wrapped in brown and silver paper.
Wizard chocolate? Nothing beats Honeydukes. Absolutely nothing.
Anonymous @ August 3 2003, 23:02:10 UTC |
What part of being a parent gives you the most joy?
(parent)Anonymous @ August 3 2003, 23:02:16 UTC |
If you had to choose one, would you fight an Acromantula, Chimera, or Manticore?
Also, have you considered getting Harry a puffskein? He must have missed out on fun pets living with muggles for most of his youth.
lupercus @ August 3 2003, 23:16:40 UTC |
I would choose whatever option would leave me the least damaged.
(I loathe spiders. Give me a manticore or a chimaera over a spider any day. I'll take them both, if it means I don't have to deal with the spider.)
Harry's got a pet! I'm surprised he's not mentioned it yet - Sirius brought him a small, green snake from his travels. Don't know its name yet but I'm certain it will be something clever.
meifu_shinigami @ August 4 2003, 00:09:15 UTC |
::sigh:: My fault for not checking the journals earlier. Almost everyone's asked the good questions (along with some question I never even thought about asking). I've been wondering about something, though:
If ever the Marauders and the Weasley twins (with Lee Jordan, of course) were pitted against each other in a prank competition, who do you believe would emerge the victor?
On the subject of chocolates, we have a local variety of cooking cocoa that makes for a hot chocolate drink angels would weep over. Not to mention that it has other more... interesting properties. ;) Just thought you'd like to know.
lupercus @ August 4 2003, 00:44:40 UTC |
The Marauders, most definitely. The Weasley boys have talent but they are not yet to the full caliber of those noble four.
Er, three.
Two. And a half.

::facepalms for not seeing this earlier::
you knit? ever wanna learn how? know where molly is?
lupercus @ August 4 2003, 00:42:42 UTC |
I once knit. Have forgotten. Would like to relearn, however.
And no, I didn't know she'd gone missing...?
dragynville @ August 4 2003, 01:12:47 UTC |
Dear Professor Lupin,
When did Sirius realize he was in love with you? (Assuming that he's told you, of course.)
-dragyn :D
lupercus @ August 4 2003, 01:37:39 UTC |
You know, I don't believe he has ever told me when. Good question. You ought to ask him that, sometime.
saffronlie @ August 4 2003, 01:14:31 UTC |
I blame my timezone for my lateness, and I do hope you're still fielding questions, you lovely person. :)
Can you give us an edited history of how you and Sirius got to where you are today?
And if things begin to not work out, like, a whole lot between you two, will you give me a call? What. I only want to talk.
dragynville @ August 4 2003, 01:21:37 UTC |
Can you give us an edited history of how you and Sirius got to where you are today?
Wouldn't that make an absolutely gorgeous addition to their profiles/information @ NA (LJ or website)?
bookofjude @ August 4 2003, 01:15:28 UTC |
Hoping am not too late. How is your friend and his bookstore in SoHo?
(parent)lupercus @ August 4 2003, 01:43:19 UTC |
Quiet well, last I've heard. Wish he'd take up a better sort for friends however. I did not like the look of that fellow he goes round with. A bit too attached to that car of his.
Ta very much for asking!
