Plus the title of the post itself: "de profundis."
It's part of a Psalm, and a letter by Oscar Wilde.
Info from The De Profundis Fanlisting:
"In 1895 Oscar Wilde became the central figure in one of the most sensational court trials of the nineteenth century. Wilde, who had been a close friend of the young Lord Alfred Douglas, was convicted of sodomy. He was sentenced to two years in prison. While in prison Wilde composed "De Profundis", the famous 1897 letter, which is an apology for his life. In this letter Oscar sets out a convincing and highly plausible argument that Bosie was to blame for his tragic downfall.
De Profundis explodes the conventions of the traditional love letter and offers a scathing indictment of Douglas's behavior, a mournful elegy for Wilde's own lost greatness, and an impassioned plea for reconciliation. At once a bracingly honest account of ruinous attachment and a profound meditation on human suffering, De Profundis is a classic of gay literature. Richard Ellmann calls De Profundis "a love letter...One of the greatest, and the longest, ever written. "
It also means "Out of the depths," the first words of Psalm 129(more info here).
The connection? Not a clue.

I didn't know about the letter. Now you've got me thinking, especially in light of this line: "I have a few hours before I must deal with some unpleasant business".
What is this "unpleasant business" he speaks of? Plus his current music is "How Fortunate the Man With None" Poor Snapey. what's going to befall him?
And now Lupin is being a bit snappish here

There is something goodbye-ish about his whole post that scares me. I don't know what is going on, if anything. I fear I might start wibbling soon.

The text of the psalm has been set to music several times - Palestrina, Josquin des Prez, and Arvo Part, and Google says there's several others.

Beyond 'ew', darling.
It's a Snupin thing. The unfinished buisness was between Snape and Lupin and their almost relationship of a few months back. ...Or so I think.
It is odd how comfortable Hermione and Snape are getting, though. I think I rather like it.
adolfa @ June 8 2004, 19:12:54 UTC |
I was commenting on the fact that Snape referenced 'De Profundis'. Of course it could be a much less specific reference than I'm making it out to be, but man, who else could possibly be Bosie?
(parent)Anonymous @ June 7 2004, 02:27:53 UTC |
umm, not liking the fact that Remus is going down to see Severus. *Cringes at the thought of Snupin.*
caithion @ June 7 2004, 02:28:19 UTC |
seems like we may find out soon what the heck is bothering Lupin. It looks like he's at the boiling point of whatever it is. Why does he keep lashing out at Snape?
(parent)Anonymous @ June 7 2004, 02:33:36 UTC |
you know, I refresh all bloody weekend and now, on Sunday night, we've got the parade of posts from everyone. The drama starts just before I have to go to bed (pointless thing called "school" in the morning). I'm losing my mind because of this...but I love it.
(parent)jacay @ June 7 2004, 03:33:32 UTC |
Haven't you had enough of mind-altering substances? Because that's certainly the impression I had.
If this is not a reference to Hermione's potion (the hidden desires one or whatever) then I swear I will eat my earphones. Or at least part of them. I would say this is what Remus is so bitter about.
dari_brit @ June 7 2004, 04:26:28 UTC |
It HAS to be a ref to that whole interlude...I cannot WAIT to see what comes out of this, especially in context with the de profundis info above.

Gah! Can't they just tell us what's going on, just this once? Lupin had a chat with Snape and I'm not quite sure how to take his recent post about it. Resolved as in something important has been resolved? Resolved as in resolved never to speak to Snape again? I think they might have fought over Remus' relationship with Sirius, or that Remus tried to provoke a fight and just got Snape being apathetic to an extent.
(parent)greenanddying @ June 7 2004, 17:17:14 UTC |
I kind of saw it as Lupin constantly attacking Snape because he imagines Snape is angry at him. Um. If that makes sense. Because of Snape not making the Wolfsbane potion, cursing Black, etc. Lupin is, perhaps, a bit defensive about his and Sirius' relationship, especially in front of the ever-critical Snape. And so he confronts Snape and is informed that Snape's attitude is "quiet acceptance."
... maybe...?
That's all I can think of, at any rate.
aeiriz @ June 8 2004, 17:02:17 UTC |
I'm not so sure...
It seems like there was some bad blood over the whole Hermoine Potions Debacle. It was almost as if Lupin blames Snape for what happened even though Snape seemed momentarily heartbroken over the entire thing.
Hopefully the players will make a post in our little comm and let us in one whats going on. The suspense is killing me.
lazy_daze @ June 7 2004, 09:36:23 UTC |
Gah! What's going onnnnn? *flails* Where's Sirius? I can't imagine he'd be pleased with Lupin going to see Snape. What *was* Lupin's problem? NA, I hate you >:(
(parent)dry_your_eyes @ June 7 2004, 12:51:57 UTC |
exactly! where's sirius? lupin was looking for him, asked Harry (who didn't reply. odd..)
after the movie I want more Sirius in NA! :)
